~Drawing the art of a Noh stage using the movement known as the cypress stage~ ……
The CHIKIRI PROJECT, a project run by filler LLC (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Kazuma Ukon), will be held from December 26, 2023 (Tuesday), 12 On Saturday, March 30th, we will be exhibiting at the “Shape of Japan” event held at Matsuya Ginza, where we will be exhibiting “theatre bags,” an art piece co-produced with Kanai props, who have produced stage art for the National Theater, as well as one-of-a-kind items. We will be selling a limited edition of 7 art pieces.
The cypress stage on which Kabuki actors perform is made of solid, knotless wood, also known as 100-year-old cypress, and is called the Shosaku-Shosaku stage. This one-of-a-kind art piece was created by a painter who works on stage design for Noh and Kabuki, using actual movement boards that have supported stage actors for many years. [Image 1
[“CHIKIRI PROJECT” web page] https://chikiri-project.com CHIKIRI PROJECT is a one-of-a-kind art piece that uses movements used on actual stages, and is a collaboration with Kanai props, which has produced stage art for the National Theater. The created works will be sold in limited quantities from December 26, 2023 (Tuesday) to December 30, 2023 (Saturday). This one-of-a-kind art piece is created by refinishing the cypress stage (composition board) that supported the actors on the actual stage, and is drawn by an artist who also creates the stage background. In order to faithfully reproduce the typical stage background painting “Matsubame” used in Noh and Kabuki, etc., the dynamic and delicate unique brush strokes are created by painting at the same scale as the actual background painting. You can feel it.

It is forbidden to step up on the setta, which involves repolishing the precious knotless cypress board, with shoes on, bare feet, or even socks; only tabi socks are allowed. The width of the setta is 909 mm (3 shaku) , 3636 mm (12 shaku) long, made of knotless cypress wood. Knotless cypress boards are extremely expensive and rare, making them difficult to obtain, and it is extremely difficult to procure materials to make just one set to cover the entire stage. When the cypress is carefully planed and polished by a craftsman, a beautiful luster is created. Then, we connect them using special nails called “shinobi nails,” which do not use adhesive and have nails on both sides.

Characterized by dynamic and delicate brushstrokes, the painters who create the stage backgrounds carefully draw each stroke at full scale to create the backgrounds that will actually be used on stage. As a result, details such as unique brushstrokes and color schemes stand out. Feel the artist’s bold yet delicate technique and the scale behind it. The Matsubame depicted this time is an old pine tree that is depicted on Noh stages. Performances performed using Matsubame are affectionately known as “Matsuwamemono.” The leaves are expressed using smooth straight lines and gradation using “coloring and gradation”, which is simple yet gives a sense of depth.・Theater back Ltd “Matsubame-Shosakudai” Large: Size 66cm x 66cm Price 495,000 yen (tax included) Small: Size 22cm x 66cm Price 165,000 yen (tax included)

Chikiri Project is a project to connect and communicate. People and companies, products and materials, technology and experience, history and tradition. Manufacturing is born from these relationships. And by slightly changing the combination, a completely new landscape opens up. We will use ideas, honesty, and a touch of humor to convey the impressions we have felt at the manufacturing site. HP:
