As of January 1, 2024, Ikubunkan High School (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, President/Principal: Miki Watanabe), which is operated by Ikubunkan Yume Gakuen Educational Corporation, has established the Ikubunkan High School Baseball Club. We are pleased to announce that Riki Sasaki has been appointed as the new director.
New coach Sasaki served as the coach of a strong private high school for nine years starting in 2011, leading the team to six Koshien appearances throughout the spring and summer. He himself has the experience of winning the Summer Koshien as a player in 1984, and is also a coach with a history of producing professional baseball players from his students. Ikubunkan will aim to participate in the
long-awaited Koshien tournament under the new manager.

■Biography of Director Rikishin Sasaki
Born in Akita Prefecture in 1966. Won the 1984 National High School Baseball Championship at Toride Ni High School. He was also selected for the Japan high school national team and has won the national polity championship. After graduating from Nippon Sport Science University in 1989, he served as a coach at a private high school and led them to six Koshien appearances throughout the spring and summer. From January 1, 2024, he will be the manager of Ikubunkan High School baseball team.
■Comments from the new director
From January 1, 2024, I have been appointed as the baseball team manager of Ikubunkan High School, a school with a rich history and tradition. I am humbled by this heavy responsibility. Well, there are two main goals that I have as I lead this baseball club. The first is to inherit the history of Ikubunkan High School Baseball Club and further develop it, with the goal of making it to the top eight of the Tokyo tournament, and ultimately achieving the dream of participating in Koshien. The other goal is to create a baseball club that is supported by school officials, local residents, and high school baseball fans. In order to achieve the above goals, I will work wholeheartedly in the supervisory business. We look forward to your continued guidance and support.
■Ikubunkan High School Baseball Club Overview
Shortly after the school was founded in 1889 (Meiji 22), there are records that it was founded as a training partner for the former First High School (currently the University of Tokyo), and among high school baseball fans it is considered one of the schools that originated high school baseball. It is counted as. *There are various theories. The first high school and Waseda University baseball teams at the time included Keinosuke Ushio (first high school baseball team, Minister of the Interior and Minister of Education), Taketaro Ohashi (first captain of Waseda University), and Kiyoshi Oshikawa (third team captain of Waseda University). The team produced many excellent players, including captain and first inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Over the years, the current hardball baseball club consists of approximately 50 members. At the 2019 Summer East Tokyo Tournament, they advanced to the top 16, matching the school’s best results. The team continues to train every day with the aim of participating in Koshien, which has been a dream of the club since its founding in the Meiji era.
