This is the 13th installment of the special disaster prevention and mitigation programs produced every year by journalist Akira Ikegami and the disaster reporting team of Metele (Nagoya Television Broadcasting) since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. “Akira Ikegami x Dodeska: Protecting lives from huge disasters” ~Let’s prepare for the Nankai Trough earthquake! ~” will be broadcast from 7pm on Wednesday, September 11th. This time, announcers Hayabusa Hamada and Saki Shimazu from the MTV morning and evening programs “Dodeska!” and “Dodeska (Plus)” will be participating. The studio also used the sets of “Dodeska!” and “Dodeska ”, and both programs collaborated with Ikegami!

This time, Ikegami covered Wajima City and Suzu City in Ishikawa Prefecture, which were damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on New Year’s Day 2024 and where claw marks still remain. In Suzu City, we examined how elderly residents and other residents evacuated based on drive recorder footage of the situation before and after the earthquake. Ikegami said, “What lessons can we learn from the earthquake? This lesson really made me feel that we must protect our own lives.”
Meanwhile, announcer Hamada went to the area affected by the big earthquake that occurred in Taiwan in April. We covered Hualien City, where its quick response became a hot topic. Tents with privacy in mind, a wide variety of meals, and free cell phones…the evacuation center was set up just hours after the outbreak. We will unravel the mechanism of its management. Announcer Hamada said, “Taiwan’s recovery was speedy.What are some hints that Japan can use?I’d like to think about this with everyone.”
In addition, Ikegami will provide an easy-to-understand explanation of the Nankai Trough Earthquake Special Information “Mega Earthquake Warning” that was announced for the first time last month. Four “child reporters” from 3rd to 5th grade of elementary school living in Aichi Prefecture were present during the studio recording. We interviewed Ikegami directly after the recording. “What if an earthquake occurs in the bathroom or toilet?” “Why are there so many schools in evacuation areas?” “Why can’t earthquakes be predicted?” Ikegami answered the tough question…?
