NGO Peace Boat is recruiting interpreters to volunteer on a voyage around the world (no experience required, certificate issued) *Sails in April 2025. Target languages are Japanese-English (Western), Japanese-Chinese, Japanese-Korean, English-Chinese, and English-Korean*
Whispering to A-bomb survivors as part of an onboard project (second from left) The Peace Boat voyage celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. To date, more than 1,000 “volunteer interpreters” have boarded the ship, along with a total of more than 80,000 passengers, while practicing “face-to-face international exchange.” Whether you have experience as an interpreter, are in the process of interpreting training, or are able to speak two languages without experience, as a volunteer interpreter, you can study abroad, do internships abroad, etc. during a three-and-a-half month cruise. I am gaining experience and results that replace intensive practical training in interpreting.

Peace Boat conducts 100-day voyages around the globe three times a year. Each voyage will visit ports around the world, where they will conduct programs such as exchanges with local NGOs and sightseeing. Additionally, while at sea (onboard), we invite a variety of guests from around the world to hold lectures, workshops, and seminars on themes such as cultural exchange, international understanding, and examination of social issues.

2025 marks 80 years since the end of World War II, and we will create cruises that will focus even more on activities that foster a “culture of peace.”

We are looking for “volunteer interpreters” who will use their language skills to connect Peace Boat participants, local people, and guests from all over the world at ports of call and onboard the ship. Volunteer (or intern) certificates will be issued to volunteers who actually board the ship.
