Launch of “Re Challenge Support Program”, a scholarship system for people to try again
*Certified NPO Bridge for Smile, with the support of companies, has launched a scholarship system to support those who have given up on pursuing higher education or obtaining qualifications to try again. * Bridge for Smile, a certified NPO, provides scholarships to young people who were unable to choose their desired career path due to financial reasons, such as those from children’s homes or foster homes, to help them try again. .
In April 2020, the Japan Student Services Organization began offering scholarships to financially disadvantaged young people. For example, if you are a private university student who attends from outside your home, the entrance fee is 260,000 yen, the annual tuition fee is 700,000 yen, and the scholarship is approximately 900,000 yen. As a result, the rate of students entering universities and vocational schools from institutions has increased to 50% (excluding graduates of special needs schools and part-time high schools).
However, among the people who left facilities before the system started, there are many who have given up on going to university, etc., or who have gone on to university but become exhausted trying to balance part-time work and schoolwork and drop out. It was.
At the same time, there is growing interest in the existence of abuse survivors who have grown into adults without being protected by child guidance centers, even though they are in the same situation as those who came from institutions. In April of this year, Bridge for Smile started a telephone LINE consultation business targeting young people from teens to 30s who cannot rely on their parents, and is expanding its target audience.
This time’s “Re Challenge”
The support program was started so that young people who have been left out of the framework of public support can try again by going to higher education or acquiring qualifications in order to realize their desired careers.
This program is planned and operated by Bridge for Smile and supported by Oracle Japan Co., Ltd. Oracle Japan employees will also participate in the selection of scholarship recipients.
We are accepting applications for the Re-Challenge Support Program, a scholarship system for re-challenging students, until September 18th.
