DIIIG Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobe City, President and Representative Director: Hiroshi Akikuni, hereinafter referred to as “DIIIG”), which develops and provides the digital map creation tool “DIIIG’s Digital Map,” is collaborating with Nagoya City from July 17, 2024. During August 4th, we conducted a demonstration experiment at Kanayama General Station to create a lively atmosphere at Kanayama General Station by disseminating information by linking digital maps and digital signage.

Nagoya City is developing an urban redevelopment plan for the area surrounding Kanayama Station, and this demonstration experiment was conducted to explore solutions to the following issues.

Although it has potential as a transportation hub, the range of activities for transit passengers and visitors to the city is limited, and efforts must be made to develop liveliness and exchange through the effective accumulation of urban functions and improve the ease of movement.

* ◼︎Overview of demonstration experiment*
In this demonstration experiment, digital signage with facial recognition cameras (Edge AI cameras) will be installed at spots such as stations in the area around Kanayama Station (3 patterns of placement, maximum of 5 locations at the same time*1), allowing station users to We verified whether this would lead to people visiting the town and improve the ability to move around the area. The digital signage we installed delivered medium-term and short-term information, and we investigated and analyzed user behavior data.
Event period: July 17th to August 2nd, August 3rd, August 4th, 2024 (excluding July 27th and 28th)
Total number of days: 17 days
Purpose of the event: Using digital signage equipped with facial recognition cameras, we will collect and investigate user behavioral data by disseminating information on digital content.
Verification details: Will people notice and be interested in installing digital signage? Will it also lead to guiding station users to the town and improving the ease of getting around the area? Target: Fathers and mothers with children in their 30s and 40s who get off at JR Kanayama Station or Meitetsu Kanayama Station and then use the subway Kanayama Station to head to Nagoya City Hall or Sakae.

We installed facial recognition cameras on digital signage,

Using a combination of digital signage and a facial recognition camera, we obtained the time, gender, age, etc. of the person who viewed the signage and verified its effectiveness.

At the Kanayama Festival held on August 3rd and 4th, 2024, we introduced the current location information on digital signage through the digital map GPS log and YouTube (distributed only on digital signage) of the mikoshi parade.

* 3. Immediate content reflection using timeline system *
We have introduced a timeline system that allows ambassadors located at various Kanayama Festival event venues to instantly reflect photos and messages taken on the spot on digital signage.

*Results of demonstration experiment*
Analysis obtained from facial recognition cameras shows that people are aware of digital signage and can reach 8.8% of users.

There were no major changes in the number of views depending on the day of the week, but there was an increase in the number of accesses due to changes in the installation location. Analysis of data by time, including people passing in front of digital signage, shows that the recognition rate of face images on digital signage is higher during daytime hours than during commuting hours, and the viewing rate is higher. This is the result.

* Content viewing rates for the mikoshi and timeline are higher than average! * In both the short and medium term, we found that digital signage led to changes in viewer behavior. Also, looking at the viewing rate and viewing time, the numbers for Mikoshi and Timeline are very high, suggesting that people stop and watch content that can be made into a program.
Based on the analysis of signage and the results of a web survey of users who were rated 10 on the NPS, we found that useful digital signage content that leads to behavior change is real-time
information, event information, and user information. The information produced by is considered useful.

Kanayama Sogo Station is a major transportation hub that serves five lines operated by three operators: the JR Tokaido Line, Chuo Line, Meitetsu Line, and Nagoya Municipal Subway Meijo Line and Meiko Line, and is also a transfer point for Nagoya Municipal Buses. Because it is a transportation hub, most of the flow of users is completed by changing trains, and the flow of people from the station to the city and circulation within the city has become an issue.
This social experiment will coincide with the Kanayama Festival, which will be held at multiple venues around Kanayama General Station, by providing event information to visitors through digital signage installed at the general station and each venue. We thought about creating a flow of people into the city and movement within the city. By using digital signage equipped with an AI camera, it is possible to obtain valuable data that will lead to future development, such as signage viewing rate, viewing age group, number of content views, viewing time, popular content content, etc. It’s done.
Furthermore, in a survey conducted at the same time, we received feedback that children who learned about the children’s event by looking at the digital signage participated in the event, and we believe that this had a certain effect on encouraging them to visit the event.

The brave shouts of the mikoshi, the sound of the flutes and drums of the festival music. When you hear these things, everyone gets excited and wants to join in the fun of the festival. We wondered if we could convey this exciting moment visually and share it with as many people as possible.
This led to the creation of an “information distribution system that combines mikoshi location information and live video footage.” This system has made it possible to broadcast the real-time feeling of the festival. When it was actually put into operation, the number of views and viewing rate improved significantly compared to conventional video distribution, and the response exceeded expectations.
We are proud that this result has opened up a new way to communicate festivals, especially mikoshi, which are important local resources. Japan has a wide variety of festivals. We respect this diversity and instead of taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we would like to provide a platform for disseminating information that can be customized to suit the characteristics of each festival and the uniqueness of the region.
We use the power of technology to amplify the appeal of traditional culture and deliver it to more people. This is the type of symbiosis between culture and technology that we are aiming for. We will continue to share the wonders of Japanese festival culture with the world and contribute to regional revitalization.

Real-time information dissemination on digital maps, including DIIIG’s digital map “GPS tracker” function linked to digital signage, which was verified in this demonstration experiment, will be widely applied in the future to provide even more diverse information and tourism experiences.
