9/28 (Sunday) 3rd Hikari JS Future Series Webinar will be held! *“The Conflicts of Moving and the Power to Live – Towards a Japan far away, in a Japan nearer” Interpreter/translator Ewald Tadashi Junio Hirakawa*
The series of webinars* “Language and Minds of Children on the Move”* sponsored by Hikari JS Mirai, which has been held since July, is now in its third edition.
* First edition inviting Professor Seishi Fukushima of Waseda University* “Multilingual Design”*
So, we talked about the overall picture of how to deal with multiple languages from an academic perspective.
In the second installment, we will talk to Mr. Satoru Dobashi Fernando, who is currently studying abroad at Kyoto University’s graduate school.* “Two Hometowns – The Challenges and Successes of Living as a Japanese-Brazilian”*
Under the title, he traveled back and forth between Japan and Brazil and spoke about the challenges he has faced so far and the importance of his relationship with his family.
Many people applied for both meetings, and on the day of the event, participants asked questions from various perspectives and shared their own experiences, making it a very meaningful forum for discussion.
Next time, for the third time, we will be inviting
interpreter/translator * Ewald Tadashi Junio Hirakawa * to give a lecture.
Mr. Junio lived in Japan until he graduated from high school and moved to Brazil for family reasons, but he had a lot of trouble adjusting to the language and cultural environment in Brazil, which was different from Japan, where he had spent most of his life.
Junio, who was forced to move between the two countries against his own will, felt conflicted as he thought of Japan, which was far away from Brazil, but when he encountered a local Japanese language school and the Japanese community, he It seems that by immersing himself in Japan, which was familiar to him, he began to face his own identity.
Currently, I have returned to Japan and work as a company employee, providing housing support for foreigners living in Japan through my work as an interpreter and translator. In his daily work supporting foreign residents, he is always thinking about the hardships he faced when he returned to Brazil and after returning to Japan as a “foreigner” in terms of housing and work.
We will also talk about volunteering to support children with foreign roots, making use of your own experience.
This is a valuable opportunity to listen to Mr. Junio’s lecture as both a person involved and a supporter. Don’t miss it!

Born in Brazil and came to Japan at the age of 1. After graduating from high school, I returned to Brazil. Returned to Japan in 2018 with the start of the 4th generation Japanese visa. After working in several jobs, she currently works as an interpreter and translator at a real estate company, while also participating in volunteer activities to support children with foreign roots.
