(Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroyuki Sakai), Kagoshima prefecture Nishinoomote City, University of Tsukuba, in collaboration with industry, government and academia, = Quality Of Life, Quality of Life) We started the activities of support activities. As part of this research, we are engaged in research aimed at improving the quality of life of the elderly due to the smell of black tea. In this study, we examined the effects on the mind and body caused by smelling the smell of black tea at bedtime, for elderly people with insomnia. As a result, knowledge that the fragrance of black tea is effective for the comfortable sleep of the elderly was obtained. We have repeated research on fragrance, we have announced the effect of tea fragrance on mind and body * 1 and the effect on sleep * 2. About this new knowledge, the 20 th Annual Academic Society of Japan Health Support Association Annual Scientific Meeting (March 2 – March 3, 2019, Sendai City, Miyagi), 2019 smart eco island coexisting with nature We announced at the Tanegashima Symposium (March 9, 2019, Nishinoomote City, Kagoshima Prefecture). 【Research findings】 In this study, the smell of insomnia-conscious senior citizens continued use for one month for the smell of tea that was recognized as validity. As a result, a significant increase in actual sleeping time (sleeping efficiency) with respect to the time in the futon was observed (Fig. 1). In addition, cognitive function was improved for elderly people who had a decline in cognitive function, and those with a depression tendency were found to improve depressed mood. Target: 16 elderly people living in insomnia-conscious Nishinoomote City (average age 75.1 ± 4.5 years old) Intervention method: The specimen (scent of tea or water) was diffused in the bedroom space by the ultrasonic type aroma diffuser at bedtime, and I used it continuously for one month. We measured the amount of activity during daytime and during sleep by wearing an activity meter and responded to psychological question paper on cognitive function and depression status before and after intervention. Measurement contents:
■ Amount of activity (sleep efficiency, sleep onset time, number of midway awakening, number of turns etc.)
■ Cognitive function (Mini mental state survey: MMSE)
