For the purpose of improving safety, the lithium secondary battery is fully solidified. This solidification is the replacement of an electrolyte containing a flammable organic solvent with a nonflammable solid electrolyte. In order to realize this new battery, existing materials and battery fabrication technologies based on the use of electrolytes are not sufficient, and new materials and battery fabrication technologies are required. In particular, a method is needed to form an electrochemical interface where the battery reaction proceeds by joining solids to solids. In this presentation, we will explain the issues of lithium-ion batteries and the advantages of all-solid-state batteries from the basics of secondary batteries, and then introduce the development and battery design of all-solid-state lithium secondary batteries with specific examples.
