Onkyo Co., Ltd. has concluded an agreement on joint research in collaboration with industry and academia with the National University Corporation Nara Institute of Science and Technology (Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture, President: Naokazu Yokoya, hereinafter referred to as “NAIST”). We have been working on technology development to create new businesses using AI. The results of a research conducted in
collaboration with the NAIST Ubiquitous Computing System Laboratory that estimates the direction of a person’s walking using only the slight vibration to the floor that occurs when a person walks. We are pleased to announce the poster presentation of the paper at the “DPS Workshop” hosted by the DPS Workshop * 1 held from Monday 11th to 13th Wednesday.
Furthermore, we will continue to work on the application of AI to sound, such as vibration transmitted through objects, through industry-academia collaboration.
1. Background
The Group actively develops technology that combines sound technology cultivated over many years and AI (artificial intelligence). In recent years, researches have been conducted in various ways to identify human behavior for application to watching services and crime prevention. However, there is a problem that privacy information is obtained more than necessary when using a camera. was. Therefore, we are using a new technology using AI to estimate the walking direction of people using only sound technology, which is “weak vibration to the floor that occurs when people walk”, which has little invasion of privacy. We have conducted technical research jointly with NAIST, which is leading the way.
2. Joint research with NAIST Ubiquitous Computing System Laboratory The NAIST Ubiquitous Computing System Laboratory is a system that provides users with advanced services efficiently by processing, aggregating, and analyzing real-world data imported from sensors in collaboration with sensors, devices, and networks-Ubiquitous Computing I am working on research to realize the system. * 2 Our company and the NAIST Ubiquitous Computing System Laboratory conduct joint research with the aim of applying vibration (sound) data transmitted through objects through machine learning to apply it to various analyzes and judgments in various fields. NAIST ubiquitous computing that performs machine learning and analysis using data obtained by faithfully amplifying characteristic signals contained in weak vibrations (sounds) using our audio technology By collaborating with the System Laboratory, we plan to proceed with research to meet a wide range of unprecedented needs.

Examination of human indoor flow line detection by vibration using multiple piezo elements
Overview:
In recent years, research has been conducted in various ways to identify behaviors in houses and stores for application to monitoring services and crime detection anomalies, but it is possible to obtain more information than necessary. The identification of actions using cameras has been pointed out for privacy issues such as the
identification of people.
We are working on technology development to identify human behavior using only vibrations transmitted to the floor without using a camera. This time, we will use only vibrations to identify the direction of human walking by the following process. Succeeded.
Two vibration sensor pairs are arranged on the floor at regular intervals, and vibrations on the floor are converted into electrical signals in the audio band, amplified and processed by voice signals to create energy trend data.
Finally, we succeeded in capturing the human walking direction with an accuracy of 83% by calculating features from this energy trend data and estimating the walking direction and the intersection of multiple people by machine learning.
We are already working on research to further develop and apply this technology. [Image
