Burgundy is a famous brewing region that anyone who loves wine cannot avoid. It is an undisputed sacred place in the wine world, and is probably one of the first regions you learn about when learning about wine. I desperately try to memorize the names and maps of each village, as well as Grand Crus and Premier Crus, during exams.
Can we really say that we truly understand Burgundy?
In this series, we will incorporate scientific knowledge such as oenology and cultivation, and delve into the depths of each village of Burgundy through a total of 10 lectures based on papers and research results.
The instructor will be Hope Ryoga Nakamura, a young sommelier who won 3rd place in the 2023 All Japan Best Sommelier Competition.
Please enjoy the endless exploration of Burgundy, which is so deep that it is sometimes referred to as a “swamp.”

Why are people so fascinated by Burgundy, why do they pursue it, and why are they so moved by it?
This is a 10-part series that explores the depths of Burgundy, down to the details of each village and producer.
I would like to draw on my experience of studying viticulture and winemaking at a graduate school in France and working with many Burgundies at a 3-star restaurant to create a course that combines science and sense.
The more you know about Burgundy wine, the more you will enjoy Burgundy wine, and we hope that you will become even more captivated by the mysteries of Burgundy.

1996 Born in Shinshiro City (formerly Horai Town), Aichi Prefecture 2017-2018 While attending university, he took a year off and went to France with the intention of spreading Japanese sake in France using the Tobitate Study Abroad Japan Scholarship Program. He is involved in the management of the Kura Master sake competition held in Paris, and aspires to become an international sommelier in order to spread the word about sake.
After seeing Wataru Iwata win the 2017 All Japan Best Sommelier Competition, he admired the competition stage and aspired to become the best in the world.
2018-2020 After returning from studying abroad and graduating from university, worked at Manjo Jozo, a French restaurant in Nagoya known for its brewery Kuheiji. In order to become a world-class sommelier, he decided to acquire knowledge of grape cultivation and winemaking and improve his English skills, and decided to enroll in the Vinifera Euro Master graduate school program in Europe after graduating from university.
2020-2022 For one year, I studied about viticulture and winemaking with students from all over the world at Sup Agro in Montpellier, France. Trained at Domaine Arlaud in Mores-Saint-Denis, Burgundy in the 2021 vintage.
In November and February 2021, I will focus on studying Mountain Viticulture in Bolzano, Italy.
Returned to Japan in March 2022 and worked as a sommelier at the 3 Michelin star French restaurant Ginza L’Osier.
In the same month, he won the Sommelier Scholarship for young sommeliers under 27 years old.

August 2023 3rd place at the 10th All Japan Best Sommelier Competition He is currently working towards his goals of winning the All-Japan Competition in 2026 and winning the World Championship in 2028. ▼Click here for details▼
