This microkernel was designed to simplify kernel functionality, implement as many system services as possible in non-kernel user mode, and add mutual security protection. The HarmonyOS microkernel design uses a formal approach to recreate the security and reliability of Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) from scratch. Formal methods are an effective mathematical approach to verifying the correctness of a system from sources, but traditional verification methods such as functional verification and attack simulation have been limited to limited scenarios. In contrast, formal methods can use the data model to validate all software execution paths. “HarmonyOS” is the first OS to use the formal method in the device TEE and greatly improves security.
