Maserati, electrified model based in Turin Mirafiori plant
Modena, February 14, 2020-As already announced, Maserati will adopt electrification technology for innovative and outstanding performance in all new models going forward. All development, design and manufacturing will continue to take place in Italy.
Following the announcement of the development of the electric drive system, the development and production plans for the electrification of the Maserati brand were more clearly shown.
The journey to Maserati’s electrification begins this year, and the Maserati Ghibli will be the first Maserati hybrid vehicle.
Production of the next generation Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio, the brand’s first 100% electrically driven vehicles, will begin in 2021. Maserati has invested 800 million euros and has decided to manufacture the next GranTurismo and Gran Cabrio based in Turin Mirafiori. Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio, the flagship of the Maserati brand, sold more than 40,000 vehicles between 2007 and 2019.
In 2020, the Mirafiori plant will reinforce its position as a global hub specializing in electrification and future mobility, with most of it devoted to the production of new electrified Maserati models. However, the heart of Maserati is still Modena, where its headquarters is located, where development and testing and the production of new sports cars begin. For Maserati, Modena has been creating cars for more than 80 years, specializing in luxury, elegance, style, performance and quality, from which cars reach more than 70 markets. Was.
In 2020, the all-new super sports car produced in Modena will be a model that combines the latest technology with the traditional value of the brand. On the production line of the Modena plant, large-scale renovation work is underway to partially support the electric version of the new super sports car. At the same time, the newly established paint shop has started operation.
Modena is also home to the Innovation Lab, the core of brand technology research, development and design. Here, current models and new models are being developed.
Product development is being promoted through a digital process by applying a comprehensive approach unique to Maserati that prioritizes drivers. In addition, the unique combination of hardware and software ensures that customer interest concerns are finely woven into the virtual simulation process.
The digital processes that support product development are performed using the latest generation of dynamic simulators, static simulators, and user experiences with DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology. Although a new SUV will be produced at the new, innovative plant in Cassino, this model is expected to play a key role in growing the brand further. A new production line will be allocated with an investment of approximately 800 million euros, opening at the end of the first quarter of 2020, with the first pre-series vehicles to be off line by 2021.
Maserati describes it as “when the sound changes.” This will become clear in May this year, as the past meets the future and Maserati takes the world stage for the future.
