[Date and time] Wednesday, October 9, 2024 12:00-13:00 [Holding method] Online (You will need to use Zoom to participate) How women should participate in agricultural committees – Based on the results of a questionnaire survey of four prefectures to agricultural committee members – [Speaker] Professor, Faculty of Contemporary Sociology, Setsunan University / Professor Emeritus, Okayama University Mr. Kazusa Fujii [Overview] In the “5th Basic Plan for Gender Equality” (Cabinet decision on December 25, 2020), among the achievement targets for “promotion of gender equality in the third sector region,” there is a The goal is to increase the ratio to 20% as early as possible, and further to 30% (by fiscal 2025). However, as of March 19, 2024, the figure is 13.9% (according to the National Chamber of Agriculture). In order to increase the proportion of women as agricultural cooperative directors and land improvement district directors, quotas for women and a system of non-member directors are used. On the other hand, in the case of agricultural committee members, the framework used for appointing women has changed due to the 2015 revision of the Agriculture Committee Act. In this report, based on the results of a questionnaire survey targeting agricultural committee members conducted in Hokkaido, Okayama, Kochi, and Nagano from fiscal year 2019 to 2021, we will discuss how female agricultural committee members can overcome regional barriers. I would like to understand this and also show the factors that are preventing progress in gender equality in the region. *This report is mainly a part of the results of joint research funded by JSPS KAKENHI Grant JP18H03465.
