Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology Aquatic Environment Education Laboratory (Representative: Tsuyoshi Sasaki, address: 4-5-7 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo) brings together 100 children from all over the country and Asia to give presentations and interact about local waterside issues. “Morikawa Umimachi Children’s Summit 2024 – Children’s presentation of ‘Waterside Issues’ and exchanges -” will be held on December 1, 2024 (Sunday) at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology’s Shinagawa Campus. The “Morikawa Umimachi Children’s Summit” is hosted by Japan’s only marine university, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology’s Aquatic Environment Education Laboratory, and is an opportunity for children to present and interact with each other about “local waterfront issues.” At the summit, children from all over the country and Asia gathered to present “local waterfront issues” that they are working to solve on a daily basis. Together, the adults and children present at the venue will explore ways to create a society that connects people with nature. Excellent presenters will be given the right to participate as a representative from Japan at the “Asian Marine Education Society (International Conference)” scheduled to be held in Tokyo in 2025. Furthermore, at the summit venue, we aim to increase attachment to the local area, sense of competence, and autonomy through listening to the presenters’ waterfront issues and having dialogue and exchanges with university students from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and children from all over the country.
