Ayumu always begins by writing the story in text. This time as well, in order to express the most important story, we first thought about how to express the unearthed coin, and were particular about the atmosphere of the uneven surface and outline. Although it is fiction, this story begins as a non-fiction story about a real person, and is an expanded version of fiction. With this in mind, when actually producing the item, we devised the convex surface and finishing process to make the outline of the rabbit and the letters look as close as possible to the appearance of thousands of years. Even though it’s a fictional coin, it’s still an ancient Roman coin, so a perfect form or finish wouldn’t feel right, so we valued the handmade feel (crafted feel) of the metal part that forms the background of Julius. I like the fact that it doesn’t have clean lines, but rather a distorted finish that looks like it was drawn “freehand”. In addition, we valued the plumpness of Julius (the name of the rabbit in the story), the main character of Petit Usagi, from his stomach to his buttocks, which is typical of a rabbit.
