The Japan Leather Award is a leather product design festival that produces award-winning winners. The award was decided through examination and discussion by a jury consisting of active designers. This year’s most ambitious works, all of which won awards, will be made available to the public.

The 2023 Grand Prix and 10 award-winning works in each category of Japan Leather Award, Japan’s largest leather product competition sponsored by the Japan Leather Industry Federation (Taito-ku, Tokyo), will be exhibited to the public. The event will be held from December 1st (Friday) to January 4th (Thursday) at “b8ta Osaka – Hankyu Umeda” (8th floor, Hankyu Umeda Main Store, Osaka).
The entry deadline was Monday, August 21, 2023, and 214 entries were received. The winners of each award and the Grand Prix were determined after a rigorous review by Masahiko Nagahama (Professor, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts), the head of the jury, and other judges who are active at the forefront of the fashion and design fields.
A leather jacket wins its first Grand Prix! Yoshihiko Ishibashi “Punching Leather Sashiko Riders”

On November 3rd (Good Leather Day), this year’s Grand Prize works were announced on the official website. This year, the winner was Mr. Yoshihiko Ishibashi from Shizuoka Prefecture (Obelisk Co., Ltd., Tokyo / Title: “Punching Leather Sashiko Riders” / Best Product Award in the Wear & Goods Category). This is the first time in 14 years since 2009 for leather wear, and the first time for a leather jacket to win this award.
