On December 7th, “Iinoji” will open at the Kyushu National Museum, where you can enjoy the flavors of Kyushu, including sukiyaki made from Kyushu Japanese black beef. A footbath teahouse will also be added next February!

Iinoji is a cafe and restaurant where you can recharge your energy with ingredients from Kyushu and soothe your tiredness from visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu and museums with a footbath. Now more than ever, we want to make your time at the museum more comfortable.

A footbath will be installed on the terrace adjacent to the restaurant from February 2024, and will operate as a “Footbath Chaya”. Not only those who have enjoyed the museum, but also a chance to recharge their energy while relaxing their tired legs by visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and taking a walk around the area’s attractions, such as the unkai cherry blossoms.

The Kyushu National Museum, where “Iinoji” will be opened, is one of only four national museums in Japan, and is adjacent to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, which boasts 10 million visitors annually. By adding content to this area, such as restaurants like “Iinoji” where you can slowly enjoy local ingredients and footbath teahouses where you can take a break, we will encourage people to visit each spot and increase the length of stay for those visiting the Dazaifu area. We hope to extend this period and further revitalize the region.

It is the fourth national museum to open after 108 years, following Tokyo, Nara, and Kyoto. Based on the historical and geographical background that Kyushu has long been a stage for exchange between Japanese and Asian cultures, we have established a museum that captures the formation of Japanese culture from an Asian historical perspective. Exhibits about the formation of Japanese culture up to the opening of the country. As of March 31, 2023, the total number of items in the collection is 1,985, including 4 national treasures and 49 important cultural properties.
