Against the background of social issues such as “social loneliness” and “low birthrate,” we are hearing more and more topics about being alone these days. Furthermore, as many consumers have experienced spending time alone due to the coronavirus pandemic, their values towards being alone seem to be changing.
In 1993, Hakuhodo Lifestyle Research Institute conducted a “Survey on Alone Awareness and Behavior” among men and women aged 25 to 39. Thirty years later, in 2023, we conducted a similar survey to the previous one. As a result, we discovered that the number of consumers who prefer to be alone has increased significantly, and that there has been a major change in their awareness and behavior.
