TXP Medical conducts research with Showa University and IQVIA Solutions Japan to develop data structuring system for pathology and radiology reports
*As a medical data business*
* TXP Medical Co., Ltd. (Representative Director and CEO: Tomohiro Sono, hereinafter TXP Medical) is a subsidiary of Showa University (President: Hisamitsu).
(Correct), IQVIA Solutions Japan LLC (President: Ugajin)
Fumihiko) and conducted research to develop a structured system for pathological diagnosis reports and radiology interpretation reports. The results of this research, which began in September 2022, were presented at the 43rd Union Medical Informatics Conference held from November 22, 2023 to November 25, 2023. *
* [Background] *
Pathological diagnosis reports and radiology interpretation reports are stored in plain text at many facilities. Although there is an abundance of information, the reality is that it is unstructured and difficult to utilize.

* 【System development】*
In order to solve the above issues, we developed a data structuring program using rule-based algorithms using dictionaries and natural language processing algorithms such as polarity analysis and machine learning, mainly for pathology reports and radiology reports related to malignant tumors. was carried out. In order to develop the system, we considered selecting items suitable for structuring, preparing a medical terminology dictionary, and measuring the accuracy of the process to automatically extract the necessary information.

* 【the next deployment】*
TXP Medical
is building a data warehouse (DWH) mainly at large hospitals and promoting the utilization of medical data. Among current medical data, in order to utilize text data, which is a type of unstructured data, there is no choice but to conduct chart reviews manually, and as a result, research that utilizes data is difficult. It tends not to go far enough. Utilizing this technology development experience and know-how, we will promote the utilization of unstructured data in the cancer field and work to improve medical standards by creating new evidence.

*Comment from Tomoya Osumi (MBA), General Manager of Medical Data Division, TXP Medical Co., Ltd.*
I am very happy to be able to work with Showa University and IQVIA Solutions Japan on this project. We have achieved certain results by combining NLP and abstractors on pathological diagnosis reports and radiology interpretation reports that contain valuable information, mainly in the oncology field. This means that we can combine digital and human capabilities to provide new value to patients. We utilize these technologies and data to develop TXP
We would like to realize Medical’s mission of “saving lives with medical data.”

* Comments from Masakazu Sato, Medical Data Division, TXP Medical Co., Ltd. (Doctor: Gynecologic Oncologist, Patent Attorney, Personal Information Protection Specialist) *
It is conceivable that we will eventually see an era in which reports will be automatically structured using generated AI, and information will be transmitted without going through various reports in the first place. On the other hand, in order to utilize existing real-world data, there is a great demand for a system that can structure it offline.
The significance of this study is not only the developed program, but also the information obtained through encountering a huge number of reports. We believe that this is the know-how that will help you decide if this is the right thing to do.
We would be happy if we could continue to help utilize the valuable asset of data for research and other purposes.
