Mitsubishi Logisnext completes demonstration experiment of automated truck loading and begins actual operation
Utilizing unmanned transportation technology to help address the “2024 problem” in logistics
……
◆ Konoike Transport, which handles logistics services, will begin full-scale loading of trucks from this month.
◆ Addressing issues such as a shortage of forklift operators and reducing truck residence time
Mitsubishi Logisnext Corporation (President: Yuichi Mano,
Headquarters: Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as Mitsubishi Logisnext), a member of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, is a subsidiary of Konoike Transport Co., Ltd. (Representative Director, Chairman, President and Executive Officer: Tadahiko Konoike), which provides logistics services. We have completed a demonstration experiment of an automated system for loading trucks using an automated guided forklift (AGF), which was conducted jointly with Konoike Transport Co., Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka). This system has been put into actual operation at Konoike Transport this month. Currently, loading onto trucks is different from loading onto fixed equipment such as shelves and conveyors in indoor logistics, and the loading position needs to be adjusted depending on the type of truck and the stopping position. In addition, due to transportation time constraints due to reduced residence time of trucks, work is mainly carried out using manned forklifts. Through this demonstration experiment, we developed new control and sensing technologies to address these issues, and built an automated system that uses two AGFs to load any truck parked in a designated parking space. This allows the AGF to operate optimally based on its own judgment in response to changing loading positions, allowing it to load trucks with the same accuracy and time as manned forklift operations. Under the current loading conditions, one large truck can be fully loaded within 15 minutes. We plan to continue to improve its capabilities by making improvements and adding functions based on the knowledge gained from actual operations at Konoike Transport.
