Kagome Co., Ltd. (President: Satoshi , Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture) aims to expand the use of electricity generated from renewable energy such as solar power generation, and is reducing the output of solar power generation equipment due to an oversupply of electricity. In April 2024, we will conduct a
demonstration of the “Up Demand Response” (hereinafter referred to as “Up DR*”) initiative, which increases daytime electricity usage in response to requests from retail electricity providers, etc., on days when this is expected to occur. This will begin at our Ibaraki and Nasu factories. Specifically, in response to requests for “up DR” from Global Engineering Co., Ltd., a retail electricity company, and Reivalue Co., Ltd., an electricity distributor, we are considering the possibility of adjusting production volume and implementing measures to increase electricity usage. We will consider this.
A sustainable global environment is an important management foundation for our company, which operates businesses that utilize the blessings of nature. We will contribute to efforts to maximize the use of renewable energy, including solar power generation, so that
agriculture can be carried out sustainably in a rich natural environment.
*About raising DR
・Electricity using renewable energies such as solar and wind power is becoming more popular as a measure to prevent global warming. On the other hand, electricity cannot be stored, and renewable energies such as solar and wind power are highly variable energy sources that are affected by the weather. Adjustment is required to match demand (amount) with demand (amount used)
・DR is a method of adjusting demand to match supply. When the amount of electricity supplied is expected to exceed the amount of demand, the electric power company requests users to increase their
electricity usage, which is called “up DR.” (The opposite is “lower DR”)
– By responding to requests, users can receive discounts on
electricity usage charges and rewards.
