【from today! ] “Over 30” Edo Kiriko craftsmen gather in Ginza! The largest ever “Edo Kiriko Direct Sales” will be held! 3-day limited “Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival” from March 29th (Friday) to March 31st (Sunday)

The largest Edo Kiriko event in Japan, “Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival” (organized by Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association), is being held from today, March 29th (Friday) to March 31st (Sunday), with special cooperation from Fujimaki Department Store (operating company: caramo Co., Ltd.). Held until. The venue, Tokyu Plaza Ginza, will feature products from over 30 Kiriko craftsmen, from traditional craftsmen to young artists. We will display and sell over 300 types of Kiriko, including “one-of-a-kind items” and “limited quantity items.”

Out of a total of 22 traditional craftsmen of Edo Kiriko, 18 people exhibited! Traditional craftsman of Edo Kiriko
Becoming a “traditional Japanese craftsman” can be said to be the ultimate goal for Edo Kiriko craftsmen. In order to obtain this title, one must not only have over 12 years of practical experience, but also pass a rigorous examination that includes a practical examination. As of February 2024, there are only 22 traditional craftsmen of Edo Kiriko.
An astonishing 18 of these 22 traditional craftsmen will be exhibiting at this direct sales event! You can browse all the works of artisans whose techniques and expressions are certified.

The focus is on three veteran craftsmen who can be called “legends.” Both are former directors of the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association. Katsumi Hayashi
The first person is Katsumi Hayashi. Received the Decoration in Fall 2020. A legend who also serves as vice president of the Japan Traditional Crafts Association. At the venue, we will be selling “Guinomi” made using the Hirakiriko technique.
Mr. Ryuzo Watanabe
The second person is Watanabe.
Mr. Ryuzo. Has been a craftsman for 49 years. He is the former chairman of the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association and a veteran traditional craftsman of flat Kiriko. At the venue, accessories such as obidome and earrings will be sold.
Mr. Hideaki Shinozaki
The third person is Shinozaki
Mr. Hideaki. He is the current chairman of the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association and one of the modern master craftsmen. He specializes in creating spectacularly detailed chrysanthemum connections. At the venue, we will be selling the new color old “Hanaspun”. This is limited to 3 items for the first time!

He is a traditional Japanese craftsman who has won many awards and is good at capturing changes and transformations in things and carving them into glass.
Yuri Yamada
Yamada stands out.
“Kuro Kiriko” made by Noyuri. Mr. Yamada has been a craftsman for 17 years. He is a talented young craftsman who has not only won numerous awards at the Edo Kiriko New Works Exhibition, but also became the youngest person to be certified as a Traditional Craftsman in 2020.

* Starting today! 6th Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival 2024* The 6th Edo Kiriko Festival, the largest in Japan, will be held at Tokyu Plaza Ginza, an architectural design with an Edo Kiriko motif. “Edo Kiriko Cherry Blossom Festival 2024″ will be held again this year. In 2023, it is a once-a-year popular event that attracted 5,000 people over three days.
Including the “Edo Kiriko New Works Exhibition,” a competition where rare new large-scale Edo Kiriko pieces cut with all their heart by artisans from traditional craftsmen to young artisans, the largest “Direct Sales Event” in history by over 30 Edo Kiriko craftsmen is sold out every year. There are many popular contents such as the “cutting experience workshop” where you can complete the cut in as little as 15 minutes while being taught by a craftsman, and the “work commentary” where a leading figure in the Edo Kiriko world goes into great detail on each piece. You can also enjoy the “cherry blossom” decoration that makes you feel the arrival of spring.

*What is Edo Kiriko*
Edo Kiriko is a traditional Japanese glass craft that began in Edo (present-day Tokyo) in the late Edo period.
It is said that in 1834, Kyubei Kagaya, a Vidro maker in Odenmacho, Edo, carved carvings on the surface of glass using diamond sand, which is the beginning of Edo Kiriko, which is still known today. In the Meiji period, European cut glass techniques were introduced and developed into Edo Kiriko, which has been passed down to the present day. It was designated as a traditional craft of Tokyo in 1985, and as a national traditional craft in 2002.
