Railway vehicle maintenance job: JR East accepts first Thai trainee On April 1st, after the post-arrival training, six technical intern trainees from Thailand will be assigned to JR East for the first time. The target job category is “Railway Vehicle Maintenance Occupation (Travelling Equipment Inspection, Repair, and Reassembly Work),” and trainees aim to acquire skills in disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and assembling through OJT in maintenance work for traveling equipment such as bogies and wheelsets. Masu.
This initiative is part of the JR East Technical Intern Training, a measure for the development of international railway human resources, which the JR East Group promotes as part of its ESG management. “JR East Technical Intern Training” was established with the aim of building friendly relations with each country through the development of international railway human resources and contributing to the sustainable economic development of the Asian region. We have been accepting trainees from Vietnam for the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment construction occupations and railway facility maintenance and maintenance occupations.
In anticipation of the future success of foreign human resources in the railway field, JR East is accepting foreign personnel from various countries and expanding the number of training areas and locations. By doing so, we aim to contribute to the economic development of the Asian region in terms of human resource development, and to create an environment where diverse human resources can play an active role. Railways, car transport…addition of “specific skills” in four fields with serious labor shortages
On March 29th, it was decided by the Cabinet that the four fields of railways, automobile transportation, forestry, and lumber industry will be added to the status of residence of “Specified Skilled Worker.” These are fields where there is a serious labor shortage and a strong demand for foreign human resources, and by recognizing them as specific skills, companies will be able to hire foreign human resources in the medium to long term.
Specified Skilled Worker is a status of residence granted to foreigners who are recognized to have specialized skills, and is expected to stay for a longer period of time than technical training, which aims to acquire Japanese technology. Previously, 12 fields such as nursing care, construction, and agriculture were eligible, but with this cabinet decision, 16 fields can now be accepted.
In the railway industry, candidates are assumed to be train drivers and conductors, and in the automobile transportation industry, they are expected to work as bus and taxi drivers, but as these occupations require high skills in communication and safety management, there are plans to enhance exams and training. It has been.
Test items for train drivers and others are expected to include technical terminology, passenger announcements in the event of an emergency, and ability to communicate with dispatchers. In addition, information will be included for bus and taxi drivers on how to respond in the event of an accident and how to deal with elderly passengers and passengers in wheelchairs.
Japanese language training curriculum for foreign personnel is expected to become more important in the future, as Japanese language proficiency is required to be at or above N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which is more stringent than in other fields. The government expects to accept up to 820,000 foreigners with specific skills in 16 fields, including four newly added fields, over the five-year period starting from April this year.
