STEAM Fair 2024 at Laurus International School of Science (Shiba, Minato-ku) 4,000 people visited [Event Report]
*A two-day science festival for ages 1.5 to junior high school students. This year’s theme is “AI & Future Technology”. *
Laurus International School of Science, operated by Laurus
International School Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Asami Hioki), will open on March 16th (Saturday) and 17th (Sunday), 2024 for the first time in four years. STEAM
Fair 2024 was held at the new elementary/middle school building in Minato-ku, Tokyo.

This event, brought to you by Laurus, Japan’s only science
international school, will feature collaborations with companies and organizations leading the STEAM field, with over 50 booths set up by our students and staff, holding workshops and lectures. I experienced such things. *

* Situation on the day of the event *
* [Seminar: Former astronaut Naoko Yamazaki, flight director Janelle Wellons] * Former astronaut Naoko Yamazaki gave a lecture. Some of the children who aspire to become astronauts in the future also participated, listening intently to the questions along with their parents. At the seminar, Janelle, who works as a flight director for the moon mission at ispace, inc.
We visited Mr. Wellons to hear about his work and his thoughts on space. * [STEAM presentation for elementary and middle school students] * The top 18 participants who made it through the preliminary round participated in the final round, where they gave a presentation in front of the judges and the audience.
It was a very valuable opportunity for the judges to comment on each individual’s presentation.

* [Workshop: Let’s compete using generative AI! 】*
They used ChatGPT to look up information they didn’t know and find answers, and they competed to find words related to animals that would make them understand.

* [Workshop Robotics Competition] *
A robotics competition was held by students attending the block programming after school held at each school. The team worked hard to complete the course.

* [Workshop Nature Trail & Let’s touch deep sea fish by Aqua Assist Co., Ltd.] * Laurus ranger students who take care of the creatures in the Life Library room provided detailed explanations about the ecology of the creatures and how to care for them.
The deep-sea fish touch corner provided a rare opportunity to see characteristic deep-sea fish up close.

* [Workshop Spot Demonstration provided by Tohoku Enterprises Co., Ltd.] *

Boston Dynamics’ quadrupedal robot “Spot ” was introduced, and the participating children learned about the robot’s smooth movements and its activities at disaster sites through videos and presentations.
