Sawako Ariyoshi’s “Aoi Tsubo” (Bunshun Bunko), published by
Bungeishunju Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Nariyuki Iikubo), has sold over 500,000 copies in total. This book was released in hardcover in 1977, and the new paperback edition was published in 2011. Last year, it gained momentum again thanks to a recommendation comment from author Hika Harada and being featured in the Asahi Shimbun’s reading section “Best Selling Books”. Sales have been strong since the beginning of this year, and we have finally reached a milestone.

Debuted in the literary world in 1956 with “Jiuta”.
The trilogy “Kinokawa,” “Aridagawa,” and “Hidakagawa” is set in Kishu, and “Hanaoka Seishu’s Wife” (Women’s Literature Award), which depicts the problem of the daughter-in-law of a doctor who
successfully performed the world’s first general anesthesia surgery, He solidified his position as a popular writer by publishing ambitious works one after another, including “The Ecstatic Person,” which pioneered the issue of elderly care and became a buzzword at the time, and “Complex Pollution,” which dealt with pollution issues. He has created a number of masterpieces that are diverse, robust, and highly entertaining.
Passed away in August 1984.
