[Okayama University] Industry-academia co-creation activity “Okayama University Open Innovation Challenge” recruitment for co-creation activity partners begins in April 2024
……
Companies and local governments work together with universities to formulate a vision, and conduct research seeds and needs matching through on-campus activities. This activity aims to create new businesses that can provide new value (0 → 1) and develop existing businesses (1 → 10)!
★☆★For those in charge of employee training, management/business planning, new businesses, and management★☆★ SDGs, DX promotion, carbon neutrality, decarbonization, and the coronavirus
pandemic…Conventional corporate management We live in an era where running a business is no longer enough. Management and employees attend various symposiums, seminars, and exhibitions, collect materials, pamphlets, and business cards, compile them into reports, and present them at meetings. Isn’t that the end? Is the company as a whole, including its human resources, making progress, including important vision formation and seeds/needs matching? “Okayama University Open Innovation Challenge” provides one way to solve such problems. We provide university wisdom from vision formation, create it together with companies, and move forward with projects. We will also move away from self-sufficiency in vision formation and utilize the university organization, which has faculty members who conduct cutting-edge research in diverse academic fields and many people from various industry, academia, and government backgrounds, to bring unprecedented value to society. Let’s aim to provide this together! March 31, 2024 (Reiwa 6) National University Corporation Okayama University https://www.okayama-u.ac.jp/

In June 2019, the “Okayama University Open Innovation Organization” (abbreviation: Okayama University OI Organization) was established with the aim of accelerating social implementation by strengthening strategic and organizational industry-academia co-creation.
Furthermore, from October 2021, we will carry out organizational changes to the agile research management organization “Okayama University Innovation Management Core” (abbreviation: IMaC). Promote initiatives such as “facility development project for
industry-academia-government collaboration and joint research through collaboration among regional core and distinctive research
universities” and “Digital Rural Health Special Zone” as a national strategic special zone. In December 2023, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (implementing body: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) adopted the “Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities Enhancement Promotion Project (J-PEAKS)”, and we will accelerate the long-term vision and social transformation. We are working to strengthen our human resources and organization to achieve this goal.
One of these initiatives is “Okayama University Open Innovation,” an industry-academia co-creation activity in which companies and universities work together to think together, form a vision, match through on-campus activities, and create projects. Okayama University OI Challenge” (abbreviation: Okaya University OI Challenge). Through the Okaya University OI Challenge, you can easily not only develop existing businesses (1 → 10) but also create new businesses (0 → 1) by forming new visions, discovering corporate needs and university seeds, and acquiring unexpected new knowledge. You will have a “place of co-creation” where you can work together. I think this will be a good opportunity to learn about SDGs education and business management for new employees and executive training at companies and local governments that provide various training programs.
We are now recruiting co-creation activity partners for the Okaya University OI Challenge for the April 2024 fiscal year, starting March 31, 2024. We look forward to hearing from interested companies, organizations, and local governments.
◆What is the Okayama University Open Innovation Challenge (Okayama University OI Challenge)? This is one of the “industry-academia co-creation activities” in which people from companies and
universities work together to create and work on projects together. In the industry-academia co-creation activities, we will focus on the field of “vision formation/matching activities” which is the entry point in the process of “vision formation/matching activities” → “matching (joint/contracted research)” → “large-scale joint research”. This is an unprecedented new initiative that will be strengthened through on-campus industry-university co-creation activities. For example, when a company develops an existing business (1→10), it searches for all kinds of seeds from universities, but until now it has been a “matchmaker matchmaking style” in which the company person compares the seeds presented by the university person. Something like that, and sometimes things didn’t work out. Also, when companies are looking for new business creation (0 → 1), there are times when the company’s vision and needs are not clearly established, and in such cases, it is difficult to know how to approach
universities and researchers. to worry.

The Okaya University OI Challenge aims to “co-create” (co-creation), such as what new value can be created and provided to society by forming a vision and matching needs and seeds. will form a unit and work together to carry out “intra-campus activities (intra-university industry-university co-creation activities).”
First, we form a vision together, create a project, and then hold a “co-creation pitch” where issues and proposals are presented and considered from both “companies to researchers” and “researchers to companies.” We will create good industry-academia co-creation. In particular, when forming a vision, we often paid large amounts of money to consulting companies or spent time conducting research using only our own resources, but we have faculty members who conduct the latest research in a variety of academic fields. By forming a vision together with a university organization that has many people from industry, academia, and government, you can objectively understand your company’s vision and business strategy. Furthermore, until now, companies have not been able to conduct research or sales activities on campus without permission. By having a “co-creative space” where you can engage in on-campus activities with university personnel, you will be able to meet more researchers and discover new knowledge, which will be greatly useful for business management.

-Benefits for companies etc. of Okayama University Open Innovation Challenge- When implementing unprecedented initiatives such as new businesses and SDGs, we can utilize not only our own resources but also the diverse human and material resources of the university.
You can accurately communicate the needs of your company to university personnel and researchers.
Co-creation pitch, an industry-university co-creation activity within the university, allows researchers to propose new knowledge that companies do not expect, and can be used for both existing business development (1→10) and new business creation (0→1). .
By “thinking together” with the latest researchers and university people from a variety of industry, academia, and government
backgrounds, you can gain new ideas, discoveries, and connections that cannot be imagined or obtained with your own resources alone, and enhance the human resources of your employees.・It is also very useful for career development.
This will be a good opportunity to learn about carbon neutrality, decarbonization, and SDGs education for employees and executives, as well as business management.
It can be used not only by companies but also by non-profit
organizations such as local governments.

◆Others 1. Our university also has staff stationed in Tokyo (Chiyoda Ward), so if you are a company or local government in the Kanto area, please feel free to contact us. 2.
