◆Overview
The theme proposed by Professor Masataka Nakayama of the National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu) of the Research Promotion Organization, “Research and development toward international expansion of renal function improving drugs for chronic kidney disease,” was On March 22, 2024, we were selected for the Deep Tech Startup International Expansion Program (D-Global), a university-based new industry creation fund project, by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
This program aims to create deep tech startups that have the potential to create a large impact on society and the economy, and to grow their business significantly, including international expansion, by using technology seeds from universities as the core. In principle, you can receive support for research and development costs of about 300 million yen in total over a period of about 20 years.
Professor Nakayama will advance research and development of a drug that restores kidney function based on a newly elucidated mechanism for chronic kidney disease/podocytopathy caused by damage to kidney podocytes, and will establish a startup to expand internationally. The project was selected as one of six selected projects out of 32 applications.
In response to this selection, Professor Nakayama said, “We are very grateful to those who highly evaluated our efforts. Kidney disease is an area with high unmet medical needs. We look forward to accelerating our efforts to achieve this goal.”
