Learn about Noto, talk about it, screening & talk event
Three months have passed since the Noto Peninsula earthquake. The situation continues to be difficult locally.
Meanwhile, traveling chef Nao Mikami held a school lunch drive. The location is Iida High School in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This area was particularly hard hit in the Noto Peninsula.
As a police officer, I closely followed the soup kitchen operations over two days, March 18th and 19th. Volunteers from all over the world gather in the school lunch room at Iida High School. Even if there is water supply, the sewage is not working, so the water cannot be used as expected. Under such circumstances, preparing school lunches for approximately 170 people was an extremely difficult task.
There were various difficulties on the ground that cannot be seen on the news. I also witnessed first-hand the lack of public assistance and volunteers. In such a situation, the soup kitchen team was really strong, focusing on ingredients that were visible and creating heart-filling school lunches.
“NOTO, NOT
“ALONE” is a word currently being used locally for recovery. We will be screening videos and giving talks in hopes that these words will resonate not only within Noto but also outside.
We hope that this will be an opportunity for you to learn about Noto’s current situation, discuss it with others, and take even the smallest action.
