FarmFi concept
Metagri Institute’s “FarmFi concept” is an initiative that aims to establish a new agricultural economic zone utilizing the token economy through an approach that combines “Farm (agriculture)” and “DeFi (decentralized finance).” Through this FarmFi initiative, we aim to create a society in which each consumer is aware of the impact their purchasing behavior has on the environment and society, and encourages them to make good choices for the next generation.
Metagri Research Institute will utilize the know-how cultivated through online activities to launch the “Everyone’s Field” project in cooperation with farmers in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. This project aims to utilize abandoned farmland in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture, and encourage local residents and people interested in agriculture to work together on agricultural work. We expect the following effects through this project.
– Preservation of farmland and improvement of food productivity through effective use of abandoned cultivated land
– Revitalizing local communities and promoting intergenerational exchange through collaborative work
– Deepening understanding of food and agriculture through
agricultural experiences and arousing interest in sustainable agriculture
– Introducing smart agricultural technology to improve work efficiency and demonstrate new agricultural models
This project is positioned as part of the Metagri Institute’s “FarmFi Initiative” and will also function as a field for demonstration experiments aimed at establishing a new agricultural economic zone using blockchain technology. By combining agricultural products produced in “Everyone’s Field” with NFT, we aim to increase the value of agricultural products through a token economy and build new relationships between producers and consumers.

To commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the establishment of Metagri Research Institute, we will hold “Opening! 2nd Anniversary Event ~ Online Snow Room Tour & Snow Room Aging Food Experience ~” on Sunday, April 21, 2024.
This event is a joint event with Kotaro Farm in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture. Experience the local snow room online and enjoy the food matured in the snow room with participants. In addition, we are planning a place to deepen discussion toward the realization of sustainable

Metagri Institute is a community working to realize sustainable agriculture with the keywords “agriculture x blockchain”. The community started with 5 people in March 2022, and as of April 2024, over 900 people have participated. The name “Laboratory” means that we value the attitude of tackling new social experiments without fear of failure.
