April 8th is the “Flower Festival”.
Also known as “Kanbutsue”, it is a Buddhist event to celebrate the birth of Buddha.
It is said that when the Buddha was born, dew (*1) fell from the sky, and following this legend, it is customary to pour tea over the head of the Buddha statue to pray for “the child’s physical health and the fulfillment of his wishes.” is.
At Hasegawa Buddhist Altar, from April 1st (Monday) to April 8th (Monday), we will be celebrating the birth of Buddha by setting up flower halls at each Hasegawa store. When you visit, why not pour green tea on the birth Buddha?
*1: Kanro…The dew that falls from the sky when the world is at peace. Thoughts on the flower festival
As a company that handles Buddhist altars and tombstones, we believe that it is important to join hands, to realize that we are here thanks to our ancestors (connection of life), and to realize the importance of life (thank you). .
We at “Butsudan no Hasegawa” will hold a “Flower Festival” at all of our stores to commemorate the birthday of Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, in order to cherish the spirit of “thank you”. . We hope that through this event, everyone will realize the feeling of “Thank you”.
What is the flower festival?
The “Flower Festival” is also expressed as “Kanbutsue” or “Gotane”. Celebrating the birth of Buddha is an annual event at temples across the country.
At the flower festival, a “Hanamido” hall is prepared and decorated with flowers, and a “Birth Buddha (statue of Buddha)” is enshrined in it. We celebrate by pouring green tea on the birth Buddha. This represents the legend of when Buddha was born.
When the Buddha’s mother, Mrs. Maya, passed by the garden in Lumbini, she saw beautiful flowers in bloom and took a rest. When Mrs. Maya reached out her hand for a flower, Buddha was born from the right side of Mrs. Maya.
It is said that after walking seven steps, the Buddha pointed to the sky with his right hand and the earth with his left hand, and said, “Heaven, Heaven, Heaven, and I alone (*2)”. It is said that dew fell from heaven to bless the birth of Buddha.
*2: Tenjo Tenge Yuiga Dokuson (Tenjo Tenge Yuiga Dokuson): “Each of us is the most precious in heaven and on earth,” declaring the dignity of each person.
Celebrate the flower festival at home
