■About the activities of IdeaWoman Co. x Urushi Contempo
IdeaWoman is active in the fields of lacquer, art, and education (philosophical dialogue), valuing the “heart” contained in people and things.
1. Why: Why lacquer?
When you hear the word “lacquer,” many people may think, “Lacquerware is beautiful, but it’s easily damaged…” and have no connection with it in their daily lives.
The project founder of Urushi Contempo started this activity after working for an airline and then working as an English interpreter guide. He felt something like “life” in the lacquerware and kimonos he encountered in the tea room of a tea ceremony. . Urushi works (lacquer art) started to seem like people. “Lacquer” is also said to be “Japan’s forgotten treasure” and has fans all over the world. In addition to so-called traditional lacquerware, there is also modern lacquer art that many people say, “I’ve never seen anything like this before!” “New” and “Interesting art!” I hope you will know about it.

3. Our Future: Future outlook
As of 2024, we are promoting a social contribution art project called Urushi Contempo.
I hope that the Urushi Contempo Social Contribution Art Project will continue to come to fruition, and that more than 47 global “stars” will be born and active among artists who connect tradition to the future. Along with the artists’ success, I hope that in 10 to 20 years from now, more than 100 sumac trees will be planted (on fallow land, etc.) for lacquer art.
