Representative Director Hirotaka Nakahara (hereinafter referred to as “TAI”) established Tohoku University Unexplored Scale Data Analytics Center (location: Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) on February 1, 2024. We have concluded a joint research agreement with Center Director: Mitsuyuki Nakao. *
TAI was established with the aim of realizing safe, secure, and cost-reducing DX by implementing social implementation using high-speed AI hardware technology, including deep learning, researched and developed by Tohoku University’s Nakahara Laboratory. This is a university-launched venture.
As TAI’s business expands, customer requests for more advanced AI implementation are increasing, and existing computers are reaching their limits in performance and power. Therefore, by entering into a joint research agreement with Tohoku University’s Nakahara Laboratory, we will share customer project information with the Nakahara Laboratory and utilize TAI’s resources for research and development, aiming to innovate AI-specific computer technology.
Through this research and development, we will also contribute to TAI’s other mission of “practical education for AI engineers.”

The Unexplored Scale Data Analytics Center develops advanced data analysis methods for unexplored scale data (*) generated from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project, cryo-electron microscopes,
next-generation synchrotron radiation facilities (NanoTerasu), etc. We aim to create new value and innovation by applying them across fields and demonstrating their effectiveness. In addition, we will
collaborate on research and education activities inside and outside the university, and through this, we will foster young researchers and corporate engineers in the field of AIMD (AI, mathematics, and data science), and provide support for starting businesses.
*Unexplored scale refers to data that far exceeds conventional scales in terms of the speed at which data is provided, the resolution of data measurement and generation, and the diversity of data modalities. *About the Edge Data Processing Research Department*
We improve the efficiency and reliability of measurement and analysis through research and development of data compression and flow control for large facilities. Specifically, we are promoting data edge processing from next-generation facilities and electron microscopes, adaptive control, construction of highly efficient network storage, research and development of dedicated edge systems, human resource development, and social implementation.
