Archia Energy Co., Ltd.
Becomes the first food supermarket to receive certification as a “Recycling Business Plan” by building a food recycling loop in its biogas power generation business
~Development of an evolutionary system of “a new food recycling loop based on local revitalization and local production for local consumption” and venous logistics DX~
……
By building a food recycling loop in the biogas power generation business, we became the first food supermarket to receive
certification as a “recycling business plan,” and we have begun further development and introduction of venous logistics DX! Nishi-Tokyo Recycle Center Co., Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Archa Energy Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Tetsuya Ueda), will be carrying out agricultural and forestry operations on January 31, 2024 through a joint project with Yaoko Co., Ltd. We have received certification as a “recycling business plan” under the Food Recycling Act by the Minister of Fisheries, the Environment, and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. This will bring innovation to the food supermarket industry by creating the first food recycling loop in the biogas power generation business. Additionally, the company will work on developing venous logistics DX to improve the efficiency of logistics processes.
April 1, 2024 Archia Energy Co., Ltd. becomes the first food supermarket to receive certification as a “recycling business plan” by building a food recycling loop in its biogas power generation business.
~ Evolution of “a new food recycling loop based on local
revitalization and local production for local consumption” and development of venous logistics DX ~
Nishi-Tokyo Recycle Center Co., Ltd. (Head office: Hamura City, Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Tetsuya Ueda (hereinafter referred to as NRC), jointly with Yaoko Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Sumito Kawano, Tokyo Stock Exchange: 8279) will launch a joint venture in January 2024. On the 31st, we received certification as a “recycling business plan” under the Food Recycling Act by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Minister of the Environment, and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and we have built the first food recycling loop in a biogas power generation business.
The Food Recycling Loop is part of a reuse business plan based on the Food Recycling Law, and is a circular model that is completed in the local area. Food residue is recycled at a biogas power generation facility and used to generate renewable energy. This refers to the generation of electricity, and the solid matter generated during power generation is used as fertilizer to be spread on contracted farms to grow vegetables.
Specific initiatives include recycling food residue (prepared dishes, vegetable scraps, etc.) from stores to generate renewable energy through methane fermentation processing at a biogas power generation facility; This involves spraying substances as fertilizer (registered as special fertilizer: Hamura no Chikara) on contracted farms to grow vegetables. Agricultural and livestock products grown using this fertilizer are transported to supermarket stores, creating a circular model where resources are recycled.
When Nishi-Tokyo Recycling Center Co., Ltd. began recycling food residue, we also worked on creating rules for waste separation at each supermarket. At target stores, food waste had previously been disposed of as combustible waste, but we have created an easy-to-understand separation manual for everyone, and have also cooperated in renovating the garbage bins.
As a result, the recycling rate increased from 25.5% to 41.2% even at stores that recycle food using other conventional processing methods. As a result, the amount of combustible waste discharged was reduced, and the composition ratio decreased from 59.8% to 44.3%.
In response to the recent rise in social awareness of the environment, companies that proactively take environmental measures as part of their SDGs and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) are receiving high praise. In the case of food-related companies such as
supermarkets that sell products, in addition to complying with the Food Recycling Act, they must also use renewable energy and work with specialized companies to develop environmentally friendly and healthy products. It is expected that this will lead to the improvement of corporate and product brands. This time, in collaboration with Yaoko Co., Ltd., a food-related business, and Nishi-Tokyo Recycle Center Co., Ltd., a recycling business, we will recycle food waste into electricity and fertilizer, and use the fertilizer in the field to produce crops. We were able to create a cycle in which we provided the food to Yaoko Co., Ltd., a food-related company. As the next step toward creating examples of new recycling loops and developing venous logistics DX, we will use the electricity generated by biogas power generation not only for stores but also for hydroponic cultivation (house lettuce cultivation) at Yaoko Farm. We plan to use it in LED lighting for growth promotion.
Furthermore, in response to the certification of this “Recycling Business Plan,” Archia Energy Co., Ltd. is optimizing the collection and transportation route of food loss and waste by developing innovative venous logistics DX (Digital Transformation) in food recycling. , is expected to streamline the entire logistics process. By deploying and introducing venous logistics DX and utilizing IoT (Internet of Things) technology, sensor technology, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and big data analysis, it is possible to collect data at each process from the production stage to the sales stage. , improve the accuracy of demand forecasting, optimize inventory management, and even make decisions such as route optimization to realize efficient logistics.
Archia Energy Co., Ltd. is committed to contributing to local communities and the environment through innovative food recycling initiatives. We will continue to actively work towards realizing a sustainable society.
