* ■Situations surrounding children*
One year has passed since the new coronavirus infection moved to Category 5 in May last year, and more school events and other events are being held as usual, and it feels like the lively daily life we had before has returned. On the other hand, the issues surrounding children and families raising children are becoming more diverse, and the reality is that many children face various difficulties such as abuse and bullying. Furthermore, the Noto Peninsula earthquake that occurred in January of this year still leaves physical and
psychological scars.

* ■The value of “Kodomo Shokudo” that you should know now*
As local connections become weaker, “Children’s Cafeteria” is a place where both adults and children can spend their time with peace of mind. Many children’s cafeterias are used by people of all generations, from children to the elderly, and they serve a variety of purposes as community exchange hubs. *
In the wake of the recent Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the prefecture’s children’s cafeterias, which usually stockpile food, utilized their networks to hold visiting children’s cafeterias in the affected areas, becoming an indispensable part of local infrastructure for the people of the disaster-stricken areas. * *

Musubie will hold a business trip event in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture on Children’s Day on May 5th, and will run a SNS campaign throughout May to spread the word about the various values and appeals of Kodomo Shokudo.

* ■Message from Chairman Makoto Yuasa “Thinking of Children’s Day” * This will be the first “Children’s Day” since the change in Category 5 due to the coronavirus.

It will still take time to assess what kind of impact the three years of the coronavirus pandemic will have on children and the community. At the same time, I think many people feel that human activities such as “travel” and “interaction” should be more actively pursued. The Noto earthquake that occurred at the beginning of the year has made us keenly aware of the importance of “connecting.”
We hope that May 5th of this year will be a day for local people to gather, connect, and interact with children.

* [What is Children’s Cafeteria]*
Regardless of the name, such as community cafeteria or Minna no Ie, it is a free or low-cost cafeteria that children can come to even if they are alone. Children’s cafeterias, which are run voluntarily in various places and where everyone from children to the elderly gather, serve as “multigenerational exchange bases” that contribute to regional revitalization, poverty countermeasures, and health improvement for the elderly, but there is no institutional support. However, it has been revealed that there are 9,132 locations (as of February 2024). (Reference: There are approximately 20,000 elementary schools, 10,000 junior high schools, and 4,000 children’s centers nationwide.) “What Kodomo Shokudo values/What we want to continue to value” https://musubie.org/precious/
