Takeshi Kitano is a film director who represents Japan both in name and reality. After 30 years of planning, Kitano himself directed and wrote the screenplay for his novel of the same name, “Kubi,” which is based on the Honnoji Incident.The movie was finally made into a movie. Kitano himself played the role of Hideyoshi Hashiba under the name Beat Takeshi, and the cast includes Hidetoshi Nishijima as Mitsuhide Akechi, Tadanobu Asano as Kanbei Kuroda, Nao Omori as Hidenaga Hashiba, and Shido Nakamura as Mosuke Namba, a farmer who admires Hideyoshi. This is a Sengoku spectacle depicting the Kitano world at full throttle with the actors of the “Kitano-gumi”.
The film had its world premiere at the 76th Cannes Film Festival and was enthusiastically received, including a five-minute standing ovation. Also, at the 47th Japan Academy Awards, Ryo Kase, who played the insane Oda Nobunaga, won the Outstanding Supporting Actor Award. Oda Nobunaga, who advocated the unification of Japan, was engaged in a fierce battle against the Mori army, Takeda army, Uesugi army, and the temples and shrines of Kyoto, but in the midst of this, Nobunaga’s vassal Murashige Araki rebelled and disappeared.
