Nippon Yusen Kaisha, Ltd. Becomes a member of Smart Freight Center, an NPO working to reduce GHG emissions in the logistics sector

NYK Line Co., Ltd.
Became a member of Smart Freight Center, an NPO working to reduce GHG emissions in the logistics sector
– Aiming to standardize GHG emissions calculation for Ro-Ro ships in cooperation with overseas shipping companies and classification societies –
……
On April 23, our company became a member of the international NPO Smart Freight Center (hereinafter referred to as “SFC”), which aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the logistics sector. In addition, the Global Ro-Ro Community, which aims to standardize the calculation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Ro-Ro ships (Note 1) such as car carriers, has been established by SFC and Wallenius Wilhelmsen, an overseas shipping company. , was launched with Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, and the first conference held on the same day in Amsterdam was attended by 10 shipping companies and classes from around the world.
In recent years, various companies have become increasingly interested in carbon emissions throughout the life cycle of their products and services (carbon footprint), and understanding GHG emissions related to “transportation” is an important issue for these companies. is. The Global Ro-Ro Community aims to develop a standard model for
calculating GHG emissions related to maritime transportation and to understand carbon emissions in a fair and transparent manner. Based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, SFC is working to promote global warming countermeasures, including visualizing the impact of increased GHG emissions, proposing ways to reduce emissions, and formulating guidelines for decarbonization in the logistics sector. Masu. In addition, SFC aims to reduce GHG emissions from global freight transportation by 1 billion tons by 2030 and achieve zero GHG emissions by 2050, thereby limiting the global average temperature rise to 1.5℃ or less. This goal is consistent with the vision of the future we envisioned in the NYK Group Decarbonization Story announced last year.
Going forward, we will continue to develop international guidance for accounting for GHG emissions through fair and transparent discussions with members of the Global Ro-Ro Community.
