Cancer Net Japan, a certified NPO (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Chairman: Tetsu Iwase), is implementing the following projects related to disability pensions so that cancer patients who need them can receive disability pensions.

◆Guidebook for doctors to create a medical certificate for cancer patients to claim disability pension
It is no exaggeration to say that a doctor’s certificate is required to claim a disability pension, and the receipt of benefits is determined by the contents of the certificate. However, the medical certificate for disability pension is extremely complicated and requires a huge amount of time and effort to prepare.
Therefore, Cancer Net Japan has appointed Professor Noriyuki Katsumata, a medical oncologist (Department of Medical Oncology, Nippon Medical University Musashi-Kosugi Hospital), and Professor Yoshinobu Kanda, a hematologist (Department of Hematology, Jichi Medical University Hospital/Saitama Medical Center) as supervisors. In order to reduce the burden on doctors, we have compiled a guidebook on how to write a medical certificate. We give case studies of blood cancer patients and ovarian cancer patients, and introduce points and tips for writing medical certificates.
We have sent this to cancer partner hospitals and hematology departments so that it can be used not only by doctors but also by medical social workers and other medical professionals who are involved in disability pension claims for cancer patients. If you cooperate with the survey regarding this guidebook, we will basically send you 15 copies for each facility (hospital) free of charge (until the end of November 2024).

Disability pension cannot be received unless the patient claims it himself. Therefore, we have published an easy-to-understand summary of the requirements for receiving benefits, the estimated amount of benefits, consultation counters, and how to make a claim, mainly for cancer patients and their families, to give them hints when making a claim. This site also features interviews with survivors who actually received disability pensions, medical social workers, doctors, and social insurance labor consultants.

However, the financial burden of treatment for cancer patients is significant, and it may become difficult to work as before, resulting in a reduction in income. In such cases, receiving a disability pension can provide financial support to the patient.
At Cancer Net Japan, we are conducting these projects so that cancer patients who meet the eligibility requirements for disability pension can receive it without having to give up on claiming disability pension.
