◆Overview
On April 23, 2023, at the “National Resilience Award 2024″ held at Iino Hall & Conference Center (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), Associate Professor Yoshihiro Okazaki of the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Education, Okayama City Fire Department, The project “Achieving zero deaths from fires with psychology and VR”, which was developed jointly with Shirashishi Co., Ltd., received the Excellence Award.
This project aims to reduce the number of casualties caused by fires through a VR system that encourages appropriate judgment and action in the event of a fire. This project also won the Encouragement Award at the 2024 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Sustainability Awards, and was highly praised for its contribution to society.
This initiative utilizes Associate Professor Okazaki’s knowledge of psychology, which is his specialty, and uses technology to acquire the behavioral history of participants in VR space to provide training that imitates real-life fire situations. is the final goal. The system is based on a kitchen fire scenario, and the situation recreated using a physics simulator provides participants with a realistic experience while learning how to respond accurately in the event of a disaster. It functions as a place.
The award ceremony was attended by many government officials, including Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Minister for National Resilience, Yoshifumi Matsumura, who highly praised Associate Professor Okazaki’s research and his contributions to society. This research has also received high praise from the public, with its educational value and realism receiving particular attention.
