Sendai City will begin recruiting for the “CxO Candidate Matching & Funding Accompaniment Program” in order to support startups in Sendai and Tohoku to improve their chances of success.

Sendai City, which supports startups aiming to create social and economic impact from Sendai and Tohoku, is working with upto4 Inc., which operates a management community for research and development startups, to improve the success rate of startups in Sendai and Tohoku. To support us, we will begin recruiting for the “CxO candidate matching & funding accompaniment program.”
This program provides researchers and R&D startups aiming to commercialize research results (technology seeds) from universities in Sendai and Tohoku with opportunities to interact with CxO candidates and to discuss business issues to improve the probability of business success. We will provide opportunities for discussions with experts, networking with venture capital, and other financing consultations, supporting the business promotion of startups in Sendai and Tohoku, and accelerating the startup ecosystem.
About “CxO candidate matching & financing accompaniment program” In order to socially implement researchers’ excellent technologies and ideas as services, the participation of CxOs who lead research toward strategy formulation and commercialization is essential. The problem is that there are few candidates with business experience, and there are few opportunities and means to make contacts. Additionally, if the market demand, competitive situation, milestones, etc. for the services provided using new technology are unclear, it is difficult to convey to VCs the success rate and profitability of the business, which can lead to difficulties in raising funds. It happens. This program aims to increase the probability of business success by solving the above issues and accelerate the social implementation of researchers’ excellent technologies.

・Target: Researchers and R&D startups aiming to commercialize university research results (technology seeds)
*Must be based in Sendai city or 6 prefectures in Tohoku
*Aiming for CxO participation and funding
*There is no problem with the timing of CxO’s participation and the target date of funding for funding even after the program’s
accompaniment period ends (after the end of March 2025).
・Number of applicants: Approximately 5 (document screening will be conducted for selection)

1. Matching with CxO candidates and specialists: Things to consider in the future with future funding and grant acquisition in mind We identify business issues and match CxO candidates/specialists with experience who can contribute to solving them.
2. Closed networking event: Invitation to an event held in Tokyo to match with CxO candidates
3. Accompanying support for solving business issues: Matched CxO candidates/specialists will accompany you for 6 months with the aim of improving the probability of business growth and solving business issues *If an agreement is reached with the matched person, even after the program ends You can request continued support.
4. VC Mentoring: An opportunity to exchange opinions with VCs will be set up at the newly opened Sendai Startup Studio in March 2024. You will receive direct advice regarding the content of your 6-month escort and future business plans.
