The Universal Communication Design Association (base: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Minoru Zaima; hereafter referred to as UCDA) evaluates and certifies the “understandability” of information that companies send to consumers. The entry deadline for the UCDA Award 2024 is May 31st. The “UCDA Award” is an objective evaluation of various information media sent by companies, organizations, and governments to consumers by a “third party” using criteria developed from the collective knowledge of industry, academia, and consumers. , which recognizes outstanding communication design.
UCDA Awards 2024 is open to entries from four categories:
“Communication Design,” “Print,” “Digital,” and “Packaging,” regardless of industry, such as insurance, finance, or food. Entrant companies will be provided with a report on the evaluation results that will be useful for future improvements.

Communication design that connects digital, analog, face-to-face, and the Internet, and is tailored to usage conditions, connects people and people’s hearts. Universal communication design for as many people as possible and as deeply as possible. “UCDA Awards 2024” will be held for the 15th year.

Is the information easy to understand?

Is important information related to people’s lives, property, and health easy to understand, such as pamphlets, business forms, and food/medicine packages that companies send out to consumers? for example,
Life insurance pamphlets use a lot of technical terminology and are difficult to understand.
The documents for contract change procedures were difficult to understand and I entered them incorrectly.
I don’t know where allergy information is written on food packages. Such “difficulty in understanding” creates disadvantages for both companies and consumers.
In addition, as a recent social issue, serious economic losses can be caused by misperceptions of superiority, advantageousness, and dark patterns.
UCD (Universal Communication Design) refers to “design for increasing communication efficiency” and “the state of enhanced mutual trust that results from this design.”
UCDA aims to solve social issues by evaluating and certifying whether such important information is designed to be “easy to see, understand, and communicate.”
UCDA Award Process and Methodology
In addition to the DC9 heuristic evaluation and various measurements, evaluation methods are reviewed every year to ensure that “experts” and “consumers” can perform them scientifically and objectively.
