An exhibition of original drawings from Michihiro Hori’s new book “Kintsugi Ojisan” (published by Magazine House) will be held at Morioka Shoten in Ginza from May 14th (Tuesday). Hori-san will exhibit and sell kintsugi vessels and antiques he has collected, as well as a special exhibition of original drawings from a picture book he co-authored with Maho Shimao!
Manga artist Hiro Hori Michihiro, who hosts the Kintsugi Club, depicts people rebuilding their lives and deepening their attachments. It makes me laugh and feel warm. The world of the easy-going Kintsugi manga “Kintsugi Ojisan,” which connects people, vessels, memories, and feelings.

Michihiro Hori’s “Kintsugi Ojisan” is currently on sale from Magazine House Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President: Shuichi Tetsuo). Since its publication in January of this year, there has been a lot of response, and we are pleased to announce that we will be holding an exhibition of original art for Kintsugi Uncle from May 12th (Tuesday) to May 19th at Morioka Shoten in Ginza, known as a “bookstore that sells one book.” It will be held on Sunday. During the exhibition period, in addition to exhibiting the original drawings of “Kintsugi Ojisan”, Mr. Hori’s kintsugi vessels and collected props will also be on display and for sale. In addition, as a related project to Morioka Shoten x Gallery Koyanagi’s joint exhibition “ONE SINGLE BOOK,” we will exhibit and sell a one-of-a-kind book created by Mr. Hori. In addition, some of the original illustrations from a picture book co-written with Maho Shimao (currently in production) will also be on special display.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese repair technique in which broken, chipped, or cracked parts of ceramics are bonded with lacquer and finished with gold or other metal powder.
Tsuguo Tsukuro, a kintsugi master, lives with his daughter Hotsure. His skills are rumored to be top-notch, but his dedication to his work seems to be unique. Today again, someone comes to Kintsugi Uncle with a bowl.
Broken dishes, time that will never come back, sad faces. “I’ll fix it.” It makes me laugh and feel warm. A generous Kintsugi manga that connects people, vessels, memories, and feelings.

Michihiro Hori
Born in Toyama Prefecture. Urushi manga artist. Graduated from National Takaoka Junior College (currently Toyama University Faculty of Art and Culture) majoring in lacquer crafts. Graduated from Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima Lacquer Art Training Institute. After working at a cultural property restoration company and working as a craftsman at a lacquer shop, he made his debut as a manga artist in 2003 and has been active in the fields of lacquer and manga. He is the director of the Kintsugi Club, which holds Kintsugi workshops in Tokyo (Kunitachi/Nishi-Ogikubo), Kanagawa (Hayama), and Fukuoka (Hirao). His books include “A gentle Kintsugi that you can do at home” (Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha), “Urushi, Manga and Me – The Horizontal Work” (Komagusa Publishing), and “Seishun Uruhashi! Urushibe” (Seirin Kogeisha), etc.
