[About research]
As a result of using wearable devices to monitor changes in symptoms in Parkinson’s disease patients 24 hours a day in real time, we found that a combined outcome of pulse rate and activity index can be a useful indicator of changes in symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. This was suggested in this pilot study.
As the disease progresses, Parkinson’s disease patients experience diurnal fluctuations in symptoms such as wearing-off and dyskinesia. Accurately understanding these symptoms is important in providing appropriate treatment to patients.
【reaserch result】
It has been shown that the data obtained from wearable devices can be a useful means for evaluating changes in symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. This is expected to enable us to understand changes in symptoms in patients’ daily lives in real time and provide optimal care to each patient.
In the future, based on the results of this research, we plan to use wearable devices to understand diurnal fluctuations and conduct research to realize higher quality care for Parkinson’s disease patients. This is expected to improve patients’ quality of life and represent a new step in disease management.
About Parkinson’s disease and “PD House”
Parkinson’s disease is a designated intractable disease and one of the most common intractable neurological diseases, with approximately 140,000 (*1) patients nationwide. Although this is a progressive disease, there are many cases where it is possible to live a full lifespan with appropriate drug control and continued effective rehabilitation. However, in the field of home services and facility services other than hospitals, there are currently very few facilities that can provide adequate rehabilitation. ”, “PD House” is being opened all over the country because we want it to be a place where the thoughts and skills of the therapists who work here can be put to full use.
