The Hokuto City inbound tourism promotion project was implemented this winter, and as the first result after the mayor’s top sales visit to Thailand, we accepted approximately 170 group tourists from the Kingdom of Thailand.

Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture (Mayor: Eiji Uemura) has exhibited at the Thailand International Travel Fair held in Bangkok in late January as an initiative to promote inbound tourists from Thailand, which attracts a large number of visitors to Yamanashi Prefecture. We have carried out PR for the Kingdom of Thailand, such as mayoral top sales to major travel agencies. In addition, since December last year, we have accepted a Thai tourism coordinator from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Agency (TICA), and are working to strengthen the dissemination of information from a Thai perspective, promote inbound tourism, and increase recognition in Thailand.
Approximately 170 Thai group tourists will be visiting Hokuto City for the first time after the Mayor’s Top Sales, divided into two sessions on Thursday, May 9, 2020 and Saturday, May 18, 2020. On May 9, 2016 (Thursday), we stayed at Grand Mercure Yatsugatake Resort & Spa (Oizumi-cho, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture) for two days, touring the city on both days, and the mayor handed out original city goods to Thai tourists. Since last year, Hokuto City has been promoting inbound tourism measures, mainly targeting Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam, which are promising destinations for tourism to Japan, and are carrying out promotional activities in each country. For Thailand, where there are many visitors to Yamanashi Prefecture, we have launched Thai language versions of SNS (Instagram, Facebook) to communicate the charms of Hokuto City, and also participated in one of Thailand’s largest tourism PR events held in January this year. We exhibited at the Thailand International Travel Fair (TITF) and BtoB business meetings, and in February, Mayor Hokuto visited Bangkok and conducted top sales.
