During the Heian period, it attracted many people of faith, and “Ishiyama Pilgrimage” was a popular event where aristocrats and female literary figures visited the shrine. It is said that Murasaki Shikibu, who received a request from the Chugu Shrine of Time, went to Ishiyama-dera Temple to create a new story and came up with the idea for “The Tale of Genji.” Ishiyamadera is about 30 minutes by train and bus from Kyoto Station. Why not visit this place and think about the literary figures who visited Ishiyama during the Heian period?

It was established in 1990, inheriting the unique spirit of the Prix de Doumagot, which has been in Paris for 90 years. I would like to explore the possibilities of new literature that is innovative and original, without falling into authoritarianism or being bound by established concepts. The award-winning works are selected by a single selection committee member who rotates every year, and the selection committee member’s term of office is one year.
The 33rd (FY2023) was selected by Mr. Machi Tawara, and was selected from “Mirai no Genji Monogatari” by Naoko Yamazaki (March 2023). It was decided to be published by Tankosha. The 34th (2024) selection committee member is Natsuo Kirino, and the winning entries are scheduled to be announced in September 2024.
