Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council, General Incorporated Association Collaborative demonstration experiment begins with Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council and Aucnet IBS to share food waste composting know-how
~ Solving the global social issue of garbage from Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture ~
……
Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council General Incorporated Association (Location: Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, Representative Director: Shiro Chitose, hereinafter referred to as Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council) and Aucnet Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director, President and CEO: Aucnet IBS Co., Ltd. (located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Yuji Arimura, hereinafter referred to as Aucnet IBS), a subsidiary of Shinichiro Fujisaki (hereinafter referred to as Aucnet), has the highest recycling rate in Japan*1. In Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture (hereinafter referred to as Osaki Town), we will begin a collaborative demonstration experiment on May 30, 2024 (Thursday) to digitize the know-how of composting food waste, which is part of Osaki Town’s recycling system. Masu.
Background to the collaborative demonstration experiment
Osaki Town, which has the highest recycling rate in Japan*1, aims to create a “Circular Village Osaki Town” that will become a model for a sustainable society where all things (resources) are reused, recycled, and circulated by recycling more than 60% of household waste. We compost organic matter such as food waste and plants that make up the majority of the waste.
The most important part of composting work is temperature control during the fermentation process, which varies between 60°C and 90°C. Until now, staff had to check the status of the compost on site, mix it and water it at their own individual timings, placing a heavy burden on staff, and making work more efficient and more versatile was an issue.
The Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council will build on the recycling efforts that Osaki Town has accumulated for more than 20 years, and will form a partnership among various entities to expand
recycling-oriented town development in more areas. Established. By leveraging the strengths of each stakeholder, we are working to resolve various issues that cannot be achieved by one local government alone.
On the other hand, Aucnet has accumulated specialized know-how and distribution network in secondary distribution since its founding in 1985, and in 2021, as part of its sustainability policy, “Circulating valuable things on a global scale ~ Circulation Engine.” We are working to build a “circular distribution system” that circulates “valuable goods” from around the world to “people who seek them” around the world. Aucnet IBS, a subsidiary company, was spun off from Aucnet in January 2015 to provide an IoT platform that applies the latest technology to Aucnet’s extensive experience and operational know-how, and develops systems tailored to various needs. We have been working on providing solutions. In order to realize the digitalization of temperature control, which is important in the composting of food waste in Osaki Town, we have decided to conduct a collaborative demonstration experiment by leveraging the strengths of Aucnet IBS. Overview of demonstration experiment
A temperature sensor*3 developed for this experiment that can control temperature in a high-temperature corrosive environment and
automatically record temperature change data will be inserted into the compost pit of an organic factory*2 that composts household waste in Osaki Town. .
Through Aucnet IBS’s IoT platform, you can now check temperature data on your dashboard, and digitize your composting know-how by recording temperature changes and the timing of stirring and watering. The period of the demonstration experiment is expected to be one year, and the digitization of food waste composting know-how will be a demonstration of the “ALL COMPOST PROJECT” *4, a project led by the Osaki Town SDGs Promotion Council. We also plan to collaborate with local governments that are working on this.
Expected effects of demonstration experiment
Digitalization of food waste composting know-how is expected to reduce the burden on site staff and improve work efficiency. In addition, local governments and their workers who are newly working on composting waste will be able to steadily proceed with their work, and data will be shared and utilized both domestically and
internationally. Furthermore, by sharing and utilizing data on our know-how on composting food waste, we will contribute to solving the world’s waste problems in the future.
*1: According to materials released by the Ministry of the
Environment, we have achieved the highest recycling rate in Japan 15 times as a local government.
*2: Owned by Soo Recycle Center Ltd. (Location: Osaki Town, Kagoshima Prefecture, Representative Director: Mitsuhiro Miyaji).
*3: Advanet Co., Ltd. (location: Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture, CEO: Ludovico Cifelli) is in charge of design and manufacturing. *4: Based on Osaki Town’s waste treatment system, which composts food waste and plants that make up the majority of household waste, we aim to provide local governments in Japan and overseas with the
opportunity to conduct demonstration experiments on food waste composting. project.
