JTEKT receives Best Paper Award at IEEE International Conference for the first time
……
JTEKT Corporation (Headquarters: Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture, President and CEO: Kazuhiro Sato, hereinafter referred to as “JTEKT”) is the 4th IEEE International Conference on Human- held in Toronto, Canada from May 15th to 17th, 2024. Machine Systems (hereinafter referred to as IEEE ICHMS 2024), out of 177 papers submitted by industries and universities, the paper “The Haptic Link Enabling Driver-Automation” on Pairdriver(R) developed by JTEKT was selected. Teaming” became the first JTEKT company to receive the highest award, the “Best Paper Award.”

About IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) An organization headquartered in the United States that standardizes electrical and information engineering technology, and has over 400,000 members from over 160 countries around the world, and is the world’s largest professional organization that contributes to technological innovations that are beneficial to human society. . In Japan, it is also called the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of America.
About IEEE ICMS2024
The theme of IEEE ICMS2024 was “Trustworthy Human-Autonomy Teaming,” which questioned the cooperative nature of humans and autonomous systems. In this paper, Pairdriver(R) is a system that realizes autonomous driving in which humans and systems cooperate, and since it is not at the conceptual stage but is already being developed for implementation, its reliability has been highly evaluated and won the award. It has arrived.
About Pairdriver(R)
This system connects the autonomous driving system and the driver’s “will” through electric power steering (EPS), which uses information such as the driver’s input torque (steering wheel operation) and sensors installed inside and outside the vehicle to detect and analyze the information. The “system’s intention” is conveyed to the driver through steering wheel vibration and reaction force.
Driving assistance based on “intuitive communication between people and systems” creates a driving environment that provides
unprecedented safety and security.

When the system detects the driver’s steering during autonomous driving, it smoothly reflects the driver’s steering intentions with steering assistance, and steers the vehicle while synchronizing the system and the driver’s intentions. With advanced sensing and control technology, you can enjoy safe and comfortable driving without the need for clear switching operations such as operating switches. About the future
We are proposing this product to domestic and foreign automakers in conjunction with their existing steering systems. The system configuration of Pairdriver(R) is highly compatible with the integrated control systems of finished vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, and by taking advantage of its features, it can respond flexibly and quickly to various needs in the autonomous driving field, while also ensuring driver safety and We will continue to contribute with peace of mind.
