Nikon Essilor Co., Ltd.
A first in Nikon history. A new anti-presbyopia lens that applies camera lens technology, Kankaku Lens “Z Series” will be released on Monday, June 3, 2024
A new proposal from “Nikon of cameras”. The key to the ease of seeing with presbyopia lenses is “contrast.” ~With our unique technology, Z Contrast Technology, a revolution will occur in the visibility of your “hands”~
……
Nikon Essilor Co., Ltd. will start selling the new presbyopia prevention lens “Z series” from June 3, 2024 (Monday). Nikon, an optical manufacturer with a history of more than 100 years and who has been making eyeglass lenses for 78 years, has created the Z series by pursuing a higher level of viewing comfort based on user feedback. This is a lens series developed using the latest technology. Focusing on the element of “contrast” that had been lacking in the design of conventional presbyopia prevention lenses, Nikon adopted the contrast evaluation “MTF” used in camera lenses for the first time in Nikon’s eyeglass lenses. Small letters at hand can be clearly seen, providing a clear field of vision. This series was named “Exclamation Lenses” as an icon word that expresses the surprising feeling of viewing when wearing lenses. Please come to our store and experience the visibility that will leave you in awe.

●By 2024, about half of the Japanese population will be affected by presbyopia. 2024 is said to be the year when the baby boomer generation will enter their 50s, and people over 50 will make up half of Japan’s population. Considering that presbyopia begins to progress from the age of 40, it is possible that about half of the people in Japan will need lenses to prevent presbyopia.

●What is the growing need for “borderless bifocal lenses (progressive lenses)”?
[Image 3: https://prtimes.jp/i/24978/23/resize/d24978-23-011b58eb7c7c182a745a-2.jpg&s3=24978-23-a23cc4f62b81199ba1fb332612bcb782-1430×953.jpg] Did you know that there are various types of lenses for presbyopia? For many years, Nikon has developed lenses called “progressive lenses” that allow you to see both far and near with a single lens.
Progressive lenses are designed with an area at the top of the lens for seeing far away and an area at the bottom for seeing up close. Regular reading glasses are made only for viewing objects close up, but progressive lenses allow you to see both near and far, so there is no need to change glasses, which saves time and effort. According to the results of an in-house survey, 98 out of 100 consumers who actually wear progressive lenses answered, “I strongly feel the need for progressive lenses.”

●Improving “investment awareness” regarding eyeglasses
Additionally, past interviews have revealed that people in their 50s become more “aware of investing” in their vision. As we get older, we find that people become more proactive about choosing lenses and glasses shops, such as “I want to go to a highly specialized glasses shop” and “I don’t mind increasing my budget for purchasing glasses for presbyopia.” Ta. In response to these global trends, Nikon has continued research and development to further improve the viewing comfort of progressive lenses.
[Table 5: https://prtimes.jp/data/corp/24978/table/23_2_dea1f71ad0c65ee27c962c7d0f15081b.jpg] On the other hand, as a result of user interviews, it was found that 8 out of 10 people using progressive lenses were not completely satisfied. In particular, with the spread of smartphones, the number of people who see small text on their hands has increased, and many users are complaining that it is difficult to see detailed information on their hands and that they cannot read small text on their hands in dimly lit places. Existence. Therefore, in order to solve this problem, Nikon newly focused on improving the “contrast” of
progressive lenses.
Since conventional progressive lenses have regions of different powers arranged within the lens, improvements have been made from the perspective of “how to reduce lens distortion.” However, in order to achieve better viewing comfort, in addition to low distortion, it was necessary to design lenses based on contrast, an element that affects how people see in real life.

Therefore, Nikon established a new evaluation standard called contrast by incorporating MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) analysis, which has been used to evaluate camera lenses, into the performance evaluation of eyeglass lenses. Nikon has developed a completely new optical design engine, “Z Contrast Technology,” which provides the optimal contrast for what you want to see, achieving improved contrast while suppressing the distortion characteristic of progressive lenses. It has been reborn as a progressive lens that is easy to focus and allows you to clearly see small text.

[Perspective type (for active)]: Improved contrast makes it easier to focus at hand
Compared to our conventional products, the contrast of the progressive zone (middle part of the lens) has increased by up to 19% (new product LOHAS 100 Z for
Comparison between Active and the conventional product LOHAS 100 for Active). It has evolved into a perspective type that makes it easier to focus.
The improved contrast makes it easier to see text and solves problems with conventional bifocal lenses, such as difficulty seeing at hand or in dimly lit places.
[Medium-near type (for walk, for home, for craft)]: Improved contrast to improve distance clarity.
Compared to our conventional product, contrast in far and lateral areas is increased by up to 42% (new product LOHAS 100 Z for Home and conventional product)
Comparison of products LOHAS 100 for home). It has evolved into a medium-sized type that is easier to use regularly.
Improved contrast allows you to see clearly at a distance, making it difficult to see letters in the distance or in dimly lit places. This solves the problems of conventional intermediate and near lenses. ●Z series lineup
