Mugs will be sold in limited quantities on August 9, 2024, Moomin’s Day. To commemorate Moomin Day, which is also Tove Jansson’s birthday, a new mug will be released for the seventh time in the series. This mug, named “Spring”, is a Moomin’s day mug depicting a specific season in Moominvalley.
This is the third edition of the mug. The two that appeared in 2018 and 2021 represented summer and winter, respectively. This year’s mug is an illustration by Tove Slotte, who has designed over 120 types of Moomin mugs over the years.

Every year, before he heads south for the winter, Snufkin leaves Moomin a spring letter, promising him a reunion in the spring. Novel “Winter in Moominvalley”
(1958), Moomin wakes up in the middle of hibernation. Moomin finds Snufkin’s letter in its usual place, on a shelf in the living room of Moomin House, and reads it over and over again. He reads the message out loud, almost as if singing it, to dispel the silence of the sleeping home.
In the illustration on the mug, the snow has already melted and tulips and daffodils are starting to bloom, lured by the bright sun – along with Moomin and Snoke. The main character of this mug, Snufkin, is depicted on the back.
Snufkin’s return to Moominvalley from his winter wanderings is a sign of the arrival of spring, and is a long-awaited event, especially for Moomin. Moomin can also spend time with his best friend.

For the new mug illustration, Tove Slotte has repainted Snufkin based on Tove Jansson’s original watercolor painting and added a flower to the hat. This watercolor painting is based on the Moomin song collection “Visor” published in Swedish in 1993.

This is a depiction of a spring song that appears in “Mumindalen”. Moomin, Snoke, and the brook depicted on the mug are from the comic “A Troublesome Winter” (1955), and the daffodils are from “Winter in Moominvalley.”
