It will be held once a month for three consecutive months starting at the event space on the 1st basement floor of Yokohama Takashimaya. This time as well, we will be working with Eitaro Sohonpo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Masami Hosoda, hereinafter referred to as “Eitaro Sohonpo”), a long-established Japanese confectionery shop with a history of 200 years, and a Japanese sweets buyer’s field. The theme of this Japanese sweets fair is “Support Japanese sweets from all over the country and contribute to local communities” as one of the five activities to help local communities. The Japanese confectionery industry is facing the challenges of an aging workforce and a lack of successors, and combined with the decline in demand due to the coronavirus pandemic, the industry is in a difficult situation. As we searched for ways to contribute to the Japanese sweets industry, which is deeply connected to sugar, DM Mitsui Sugar’s main product, we have been holding monthly Japanese sweets fairs in the front garden of our head office building since February of this year. Thanks to the help of our Japanese confectionery buyer, Mr. Satoshi Hata, we are able to have an event that attracts many people every time. From June, we will expand the area and hold the event at Yokohama Takashimaya in order to bring the charm of Japanese sweets to even more people and to stimulate the Japanese sweets industry. We look forward to seeing you there.
